ok then all I need is a code for a Motorola box 2202. So if I get the cable is there a program for this and I just use ir.exe? Thanks.3FG wrote:url=http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... 4767#64767]This post[/url] says that it does not have a modem.
It appears that the 6962 is a JP1 remote, and not a flash based 1.2/1.3 remote.
Getting a cable for an old remote like the 6962 is doable, but ones that work with a USB port are setup to communicate with the flash JP1.2/1.3 remotes. You can buy an adapter that will convert the electrical signals to JP1 style. I would strongly recommend that you use RMIR rather than the IR/RM or KM combination, because it is one integrated program.
Unless you are very attached to the 6962, I would buy a RCA RCRP05B, and use setup code Cable 0858. You wouldn't need a cable, since the setup code is built in, but if you do buy a cable, the combined cost of the cable plus RCRP05B would be similar to the cost of a cable and JP1 adapter. The more modern remotes have buttons better matched to today's equipment, have features like Device Specific Macros, and have the newer IR protocols (like this one) already in the remote.

The 6692B000 seems to share the RDF with the 6690B00 remote, so I would think that makes it a JP1.2 remote wouldn't it. No adapter is required if its JP1.23FG wrote:Getting a cable for an old remote like the 6962 is doable, but ones that work with a USB port are setup to communicate with the flash JP1.2/1.3 remotes. As far as RMIR over IR, that is a matter of opinion. I find RMIR extremely difficult to use, and its much easier for me to do the cut and paste than to try to decipher whats going on in RMIR. So you should try both and pick the one you like best.

oops, I seem to have my numbers screwed up. it wasn't 6692 it was 6962. My mistake. It isn't a JP1.2 its a JP1 just like 3fg said. However the RDF says its WAV upgradable.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

The 6960 is indeed a JP1 remote. It's one that I know well since that was the first remote that I wrote an extender for (that and the 9960B01 which shared a single source file for the extender for both)
I didn't know about the 6962, that may be one that is WAV upgradeable. The bare old 6960 was not.
The Kameleon remotes were sort of cool, I used the 6960 and later the 9960B01 as my primary remote for a while. I got tired of having to "look at it" and went back to a button remote and started using JP1.3 Samsung flash remotes from that point on)
I still have a couple of 9960B01's, but don't have a 6960 anymore.
As 3FG said, if you are going to buy a cable, buy the JP1.3 cable and the JP1 adapter so that if you ever upgrade to a newer remote the cable is still good for you. (or if you have a PC with a parallel port and a small amount of soldering skills you could build one of the original simple JP1 cables for a few bucks)
