JP1 Remotes

Hi Guys,
I just received my shiny new modified 6131 from Robman today (great deal and fast shipping, thanks Rob). I used the book setup codes that came with the remote and it actually works very well "out of the box" with my

Panasonic TV
Dishnetwork 510 PVR
Sony DVD
Panasonic VCR
Kenwood Receiver

I've read, read, and reread the beginners guide. I downloaded IR.EXE and KM. Both programs work fine as far as I can tell. I hooked the jp1 cable up and downloaded the remote to the IR program. Everything was just as I had manually entered it with the setup codes.

Here's my problem that I would like some help with. The skip forward or skip back button doesn't work on the PVR( I can't remember which button right now). There are also some other buttons I would like to customize. The same thing goes for the Kenwood receiver, I just need to do a little tweaking to get everything just right. Do I do this in KM? I looked in the files section and code search forum but I can't find an exact match for my Dish 510 (there is a dish 508 though).

To sum it all up, how do I customize the remote buttons to function as I want them to in KM?

I know this seems simple to you veterans, but I seem to be stumped on the first step. I would appreciate any help you could give. Also, if you need any more info. or for me to clarify something, just let me know.

If you have just a few buttons to customize, you would normally do that with keymoves, in IR. Since you have the 6131, you have to be aware that it (and one or two other remotes) use a slightly different format for entering keymoves in IR.

If you want to make significant changes, you would do that with a device upgrade, in either KM or RM. Any of the DishPVR upgrades will probably work as a good starting point.

Dish only uses 2 different codes, there's the SAT/1005 code for the Dishplayer, and all the others seem to use SAT/0775. So, you can try any of the Dish upgrades.

Thanks for the help guys. I messed around with the remote yesterday evening and finally got it to do what I wanted. After some minor changes I think I'll have it exactly the way I want.

I still can't believe I can control my 5 devices with a remote that cost $20. I was about to buy the MX500 when I first heard of jp1 over at remotecentral.com. Although I'm sure it is a fine remote, I just don't see how it could be better for me than the 6131 and jp1.

Bogey & Rob,
I'm a real newbie to jp1. I've downloaded IR, KM and the RDF's and I've done my initial setup for my 6131M remote, but Where are the codes for the Dish 508 pvr for the 6131? Everything else I have works great.

I downloaded the file into KM. I selected the remote as the 6131 PVR. Uploaded to IR and loaded into remote. Nothing. I uploaded the text file, as written, loaded into IR. Nothing.
I changed the device to vcr/dvd. nothing
With the 6131 as the remote the code is shown as 1775.
With the rca 810 the code is 1778.
Here's my Q's What do i put in the following fields:
REmote? Device type?
The 508 is on IR address 2, if that makes any difference. I have a 6131M,
All the other equipment works fine, Dish 301, JVC tv, TiVo, Yamaha receiver, Mits DVD
Any other ideas?

Remote = your remote. KM offers 2 choices for the 6131: standard and extended. The difference between them is the way key moves are handled, so make sure to select the right one.

Device Type = whatever yields the most available buttons, which on the 6131 is VCR.

In the Unit Code field on the Setup sheet, enter "2". If you didn't do this before copying the code over to IR, that's probably why nothing worked.

That was it, wrong IR address. Its always the simple things. Thanks for your help. A $25 remote that rules them ALL with the help of JP1 and you guys.
