Quick question, does Sony's OBCs only range between 0-127? I've been doing a little discrete hunting lately and noticed none of the protocols will allow an OBC greater than 127, and was wondering if that was by design.

Use DecodeIR.html (or the Wiki Very Happy) which has a lot of information about IR protocols:

Sony12
IRP notation: {40k,600}<1,-1|2,-1>(4,-1,F:7,D:5,^45m)+

Sony15
IRP notation: {40k,600}<1,-1|2,-1>(4,-1,F:7,D:8,^45m)+

Sony20
IRP notation: {40k,600}<1,-1|2,-1>(4,-1,F:7,D:5,S:8,^45m)+

Ah, I take it then F is relative to OBC and 7 indicates the number of possible bits. 1111111=127. Sorry, I don't quite have IRP interpretation quite down yet.

Another source of info is the Sony section of this site. One of the pages there lists the EFCs for each of the OBCs (called "command codes" or "c.c." on the page) and it only lists OBCs up to 127
http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/Sony_efctable.htm

But yeah, the range of OBCs is determined by the number of bits in the OBC portion of the binary signal.
