Rob H. has written up a document on his site called Sony Device Code Theory where he suggests that the 8-bit device code in both the Sony15 and Sony20 protocols is really two seperate device codes, one of 5-bits and the other 3-bits.
Looking at the table that he produced on that page, it certainly seems to make sense.
To help myself understand what he was describing, I created a spreadsheet that calculates the new format device codes from the established device codes. I have loaded a copy of it into the Protocols Notes folder in case it's of interest to anyone.
It's probably not practical for us to try and adopt this new format because the current format is so prevelant, but it might prove useful if we ever need to try and guess what device codes Sony might have used for an alternative unit code for a device, or something like that. _________________ Rob
