Hi all. My first post.
I'm a beginner and bought an RCRP05B remote and cable and played with it somewhat.

I have read the JP1 for beginners, JP1-Just How Easy is It?, and the wiki on Extenders.

In the extender readme, the "TV/OK" button is mentioned for activation. What does TV/OK mean? TV followed by OK or both the TV and OK buttons at the same time? I tried loading the extender and now my remote does not respond to the setup hold.

I'm thinking the following three things to start with. Do these make sense?

1. One button to watch TV:
TV Power On
Set Input to TV
Receiver Power On
Set Input to TV
Remote Set to control volume and channel on TV

2. One button to listen to CD:
Receiver Power On
Set Input to CD
CD Power On
Remote Set to Control CD

3. One button Power Off:
TV Power Off
Receiver Power Off
CD Power Off

My equipment and software are hopefully in my signature.

TV/Ok Means that you need to be in TV mode and then press the OK button.

Thanks Vickyg
I wonder if the remote is trashed now. The setup hold does not produce any blinking lights. If I remove and replace a battery, the cable light blinks once if I hold setup then the cable light only blinks once. Can't seem to get it into 9xx mode to reset it.
Any ideas?

Have you tried new batteries?

Yes, new batteries. I even bought another remote this morning, down loaded it, saved and uploaded to the old remote. Still no action on setup-hold.

How about the 981 reset (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4057)?

vickyg,
My understanding is pressing and holding the setup should generate two blinks. It does nothing.

If I upload the image that was downloaded from the new remote, then pressing setup on the bad remote immediately gives one blink, then nothing. subsequent setup and setup holds generate no blinks.

The new remote gives two blinks after holding setup as expected.

I don't use the JP1.3 extenders, but it is my understanding that these extenders activate and stay active until they are disabled.

The long hold of the SET buttons won't do anything until the extender is deactivated.

Here is what the extender readme says:
"The extender is deactivated using a long-press of the "setup" key on the remote. The LED will flash 4 times to indicate that the extender has been deactivated and the remote has been returned to its normal, non-extended state"

Pressing and holding the setup produces no flashes. so it wont get out of extender if it was in it.

If it's ok with you, I will post on a new topic since this one has become off topic.

Sorry, I've been using the word "reset" instead of the "setup" button. I've meant "setup" in the previous posts. I finally got my magnifying glass out to check it.

Follow the link at the top of the page to the File Section, then follow the link to the Diagnosis Area, then use the Upload button to load your files. When you're done, please post a link to the files here to save us all having to search for them.

The JP1.3 extenders do not deactivate when the remote is reset (by removing the batteries, this is well documented)

To deactivate, you MUST still have the extender loaded in memory. IF by some chance you loaded a non-extended IR file, you need to put back the extended IR file.

long press of setup should deactivate the extender on the RCA. (other JP1.3 remotes have different deactivation methods)

Robman,
Thanks for the tip on uploading. I found the upload button. I also found the BBCode link to the left of the reply box. Will try.

unclemiltie,
Thanks for the tip on overloading the extender. After I originally loaded the extender, it was acting goofy (Some display areas on the GUI were not being updated unless moused.) The overload was my mistake.
For now, I'll try to reload the extender so I can deactivate it.
