Hoping someone here can help me, this is one that's got me stumped, and I've been using JP1 for years so I hate to think of myself as an amateur, but I've been away from the group for a little while, so maybe this is something obvious...

I'm trying to convert my existing home theater setup from my trusty 1994 to my new 2116. I had several upgrades and even a combined device, all of that seems to be working (at least nominally, AFAIK).

However, I'm stumped on a BASIC advanced code problem that only seems to happed on the 2116.

I've got a Pioneer DV-333 DVD player that I'm trying to use the Distrete Off function for.
On my 1994, I've ALWAYS used the DVD 0571 code, with EFC 035 for this function, and its always worked fine. Checking all of the literature and upgrades on Yahoo confirms that EFC 035 is the discrete off code.

However, on the 2116 this code doesn't seem to work. Originally I was trying it with the ext2 extender, but I went back to basics and just setup a basic config with that EFC keymoved to a regular key. Still no dice.

Any of the more experienced experts have any idea why a built-in code and EFC pair would work on one device and not on another?

I've tried setting it up as DVD/0571 and VCR/0571 (the latter doesn't work for the other functions very well, and doesn't do the D.O. either). I've also tried using that EFC on the DVD/0525 and DVD/0632 setups, same result.

I'm going to post a zip file with my WORKING 1994 config, and my not working extended and non-extended 2116 configs to the diag section at yahoo...

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Ok, uploaded herbies_0571_debug.zip to the diag area.

FWIW, I'm hoping not to do any sort of Discrete_On, Toggle_Off workaround, the DVD is sort of slow to power up... and besides, it works on my 1994!!!

The version of DVD/0571 differs on the 2 remotes. In the 1994, it use 1-byte commands, but in the newer 2116, it uses 2-byte commands. That's why the EFC doesn't work. Using IR, you can try entering "22 00" as the "hex cmd" in the 2116's key move.

OK!
"22 00" didn't work, but I did get it working with that hint and a little more investigation.

I learned the signal from my 1994 to my 2116, and figured out that the discrete off is on device 175, which is apparently Device "2" on the 2116's version of this protocol. So, if I set the Hex Cmd to "22 01" it works.

Just to confirm that I understand WHY it works, the second byte specifies which device to use, correct? (starting with device1 == 00 in the usual programmers numbering)

Thanks for the help, in any case. Now I can proceed with everyhing else! Very Happy
