I don't remember well what i had for dinner last Thursday, so I'll have to guess about finding the Hamming code. I think I bothered to try to classify the scheme because (I suppose) had found out that unit numbers ran up to 7, and that didn't fit into what we already knew. It was pretty clear that the 4DTV protocol is likely to be better than a simple parity bit for detecting errors. Any web search for error correcting codes brings up Hamming as a possibility, especially where the error correction is to be done on a short block of data. To my eye the 4DTV scheme looks very much like Hamming even though the actual bit numbers are different.
I agree that we don't want a blanket prohibition on hacked executors, but I notice that a memory improvement is not always realized by using 1 byte of variable data. If I counted right the 00A4 hacked S3C80 executor uses 26 more bytes than the official one, and needs 4 fixed data bytes. So an upgrade needs at least 30 functions before the hacked 00A4 executor takes less space. |
