I have a complete IR file with extensive keymoves/macros/upgrades/etc. for an old JP1 remote. Is there any way to reuse this with a new (different) remote without starting all over? The only place I can find to change the RDF is in File -> New. |

Nope, there's no single program that will convert everything from the old remote to the new remote. _________________ Rob

I change remotes all the time. There is no way that I know of to transfer remotes directly. KM and RM have the abitlity to paste with keymoves now. I don't think they did that when we first started using KM and RM.
I have most of my information in KM and RM sheets. So I change the remote, and adjust the extra keymoves from there. Then paste it into the new remote image.
The Summary Report is also a great help too.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

In this situation I open two sessions of IR side-by-side, one with my old config for reference and the other with my new config. Then just change the remote model in all your RM upgrades and go from there as Vicky suggested. So you're not really starting from scratch. If you don't have any of your upgrade files, use RMIR and it will recreate them for you. |

Thanks for the excellent suggestions, they are very helpful! Sounds easy enough, I will give it a go. |

If you use an extender, it's also helpful if they use a similar 'language'.
I was originally going to replace my 8910 with a 10820, but the extender was very different. I never got very far.
The RCRP05B I'm trying out now is similar and has mostly translated over. The main issue is the slightly different oddball keys I used to hold macros and other things. The 05B's extender even has pre-defined virtual keys for DiscreteOn and Off, which is very helpful. |

It was a little tedious, but I got everything transferred over using the methods suggested here, and the new remote is working great. Thanks again. |
