From the images I see you have a URC-9910 remote.

What version of RMIR are you using?

What type of cable are you using?

  • JP1 (EEPROM) Parallel Port Cable
  • JP1 (EEPROM) USB cable,
  • JP1.2/3 (Flash) USB cable with JP1 (EEPROM) Programming adapter?

I'm using RMIR 2.01 with JP1 (EEPROM) USB cable. When I try to use IR (8.03), I get an error saying "open device failed (last error=3). I also get "privileged instruction" errors. Strange thing is, I had no issues downloading to and from the remote just a few days ago. Can a cable just go bad all of a sudden? After a lot of aggravation, I just completed what I think to be the final upgrade and now I just need to get it to the remote.

Some failures can be caused by low batteries.

Lots of people have had lots of trouble with the Delcom drivers that are required for using the JP1 (EEPROM) USB cable.

Try the usual tricks for JP1 remotes:

  • Fresh batteries
  • Old batteries
  • One battery with a paper clip

Try the usual tricks for Windows and Delcom

  • Reboot and try again
  • Uninstall then reinstall the Delcom drivers
  • Try different versions of the Delcom drivers
  • Try the WinUSB drivers (someone else might know if that is instead of or in addition to the Delcom drivers)
  • Try a different USB port

I don't use a JP1 (EEPROM) USB Cable, so don't personally have experience with these problems.

Thanks for your suggestions. As it turns out, it was my laptop that was the problem. I have a 64bit Windows 7 machine and even though I installed the Delcom drivers it wouldn't work. So I tried it on an older PC and was successful.

Glad you got it sorted out. FYI, Delcom doesn't have Win7 64 drivers. You'd have to use 3FG's driver on that OS. You kind of threw us when you said it worked before, then quit working. It never really worked on Win7 64, correct?

Well actually I was able to download from the remote OK, but I couldn't go in the other direction.

Don't use the Delcom drivers on your 64-bit machine, use this instead:

I'm using this on my 64-bit Win 7 laptop and it works.
