I set up my URC-9910 when it was new a few years back (probably more years ago than that). Anyway, I want to reprogram it since I've got mostly different equipment now. I know that I will need to re-educate myself because I've forgotten everything. My questions is, how do I save (backup) my current settings before I hack at it? |

Download new IR file from the file section. But do read this first
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12221
Also download the newest RDF files. Even though the remote hasn't changed, the RDF improvements go hand in hand with IR version.
Run IR. File menu > set RDF location.
On the interface menu select parallel (still have the cable?)
It'll ask about port or something. Most likely the default will work.
Then on the interface menu run Check interface.
If works, download from the remote.
File menu > Save the file.
Go to Windows, set Properties, Read only.
If doesn't work, post back. Good luck. _________________ Liz

First download the latest versions of IR, KM, RM and RDFs, images and maps.
Then, if you like, (re)read:
Wiki - JP1 - Just how easy is it? - RM-IR version
or
Wiki - JP1 - Just how easy is it? - KM version
To save your current remote before reprogramming, just:
[1] Start up the IR program.
[2] Connect your remote with the interface cable
[3] Select Remote-Download from Remote
[4] Do File-Save/Save as
[5] Put that IR File somewhere safe
Now, if necessary, you can use Remote-Upload to Remote from IR later to restore that file to the remote.
looks like ElizabethD and I were replying at the same time - I do like the idea of making that file "read only" - that's a nice touch, and I omitted the interface steps - so just as well...

Vicky wrote IR Help document - I can't find it. That, too, is a good path. And I forgot to list KM, thanks jimdunn.
Also there's RMIR - a combo of device upgrades and IR-like functionality, all in one. _________________ Liz

You're welcome - and what you said there is an extremely thoughtful statement that I'm very sure all the volunteers here will appreciate as much as I do... thank you...
Please post back if you need any more help.

Don't forget to mention the WIKI. I just took a look and its REALLY taken shape! _________________ Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.
