Region hack with a One4all URC 3940

Hi,
I just bought a
Sony BDP-S470 (in Europe) blu ray player and I desperately need to make it region free (for dvds). So I found the instructions on this site (
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sony-bdp-s470/10830), and bought a
One4all URC 3940 remote, but I seem to have a problem. I used the code 20533 to begin, exactly as it says, and then the rest but my player is not responding to the remote at all, not when I press "power" or anything.
The oneforall works with my TV, so it's working. I thought it could be the player, so I installed the last update, no change. Could it be something in the system settings or something ? I could try and buy the OneForAll URC-7950, but someone said it worked fine with the URC 3940. Please help me.
Thank you.

It won't respond because the proper code to operate the 470 is 21516. Just follow the procedure as-is.

Too many digits. Did you mean 21516?

Yes. Thanks. Fixed my post.

You're right, the remote works with the player now. But I've just tried to make it region free with "1 2 3 4 5" and nothing, it just turned off, and still not accepting other region's dvds

I was just trying to explain why 20533 didn't work the player. You still have to use 20533 to do the hack, not 21516.

I have a BDP-350 and have installed the hack, and mdavej is correct. The 21516 code is what the BLU-RAY player functions respond to. These happen to be the same functions that operate the machine for playback of regular DVDs, but the HACK requires you to send to the machine REGULAR Sony DVD commands, which the 20533 code provides.
As for why it does not work for you, I cannot say from the information available i your posts.
As I recall, (it's been a while since I did this) the player really gives you no indication that the commands are having any effect until you're done, and the 24p light blinks twice (or something like that). It will only do that the FIRST time to apply the hack, and thereafter, repeating the hack has no externally visible effects.
Have you actually tried to play a non-Region 2 DVD?
(Additional aside: Although my player "accepted" the hack, it still will not play European DVDs, because as a US-market machine, it does not have the hardware inside to process/output PAL video, whereas Region 2 machines have the hardware for both NTSC and PAL built-in, so the hack can actually DO something. Ergo, my machine will play only NTSC DVDs, but from any region - like Japan)

Yes but if I use the code 20533 I'll loose the connection between the remote and the player. I mean, what you are saying is :
1. Press DVD
2. Hold the magic button until the Power key flashes twice.
3. Press 21516
4. Press DVD
5. Hold the magic button until the Power key flashes twice.
6. Press 20533
and do the rest ? it doesn't really make sense.
And yeah, I did try it with a non R2 dvd. Thank you for your responses by the way.

Yes. Do that, but leave out steps 1-3. You bought the remote to do the hack, right? Why do you care if the remote controls the player? It's irrelevant.

Well I tried that the first time and nothing happened, I need the remote to control the player somehow if I want the hack to work. But it finally worked !!
Here's what I did :
1. Press DVD
2. Hold the magic button until the Power key flashes twice.
3. Press 20533
4. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
5. Press 994
6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
7. Press 00189
8. Press 1 ( this sets it to key 1 - it flashes twice, if
not repeat steps 4 to 8 )
9. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
10. Press 994
11. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
12. Press 00255
13. Press 2 ( this sets it to key 2 - it flashes twice )
14. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
15. Press 994
16. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
17. Press 00095
18. Press 3 ( this sets it to key 3 - it flashes twice )
19. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
20. Press 994
21. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
22. Press 00221
23. Press 4 ( this sets it to key 4 - it flashes twice )
24. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
25. Press 994
26. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
27. Press 00079
28. Press 5 ( this sets it to key 5 - it flashes twice )
29. Press DVD
30. Hold the magic button until the Power key flashes twice.
31. Press 21516
32. Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on the OneForAll URC 3940 remote. The
power light will start flashing. (blue middle light)
33. Put the player back into standby with the Sony remote.
Thank you so much for your help. I guess it would've been easier with the other oneforall, but I did it anyway !

Totally offtopic, but as you guys have some URC3940 remotes, can you confirm it has the JP1 header?

This thread shows that it doesn't have the header installed.
