15-2116 Memory Size???

I recently purchased a Rat Shack 15-2116 with the intent to ir teach it commands from my Acer IR Wireless keyboard (being used for MythTV, www.mythtv.org). All was working well, but after teaching it about 10 keys, I got "memory full". What a dissapointment. Hence, I'm here.

I'm tempted to take the JP1 plunge, but was first wondering:
1) How much memory does the RS15-2116 have on it?
2) How much memory does an OfA 8910 have on it?
3) Is there a referance for the amount of memory various remotes?

If the 8910 (or some other remote) has way more memory, I would be tempted to get it insted of the 2116. Are there any other reasons to get an 8910 or something else?

I think JP1 would be cool, but I'm limit on time and my wife doesn't appreciate as much as I do all my of half finished projects. :)

The memory you are referring to is the "learning memory". With the
exception of the URC-8060 in England which has 2k of learning memory, all OFA and RS learning remotes have 1k of learning memory.

When programmed using JP1, the memory limits are not an issue as we can add upgrades to control our devices.

Cool ..... but at the same time somewhat dissapointing. (I'm lazy)

Well, I guess it is off to buy a JP1 cable.

Thanks for the very quick response. I'm sure I'll have more questions next week once I get the cable.

It depends on how you define laziness. Once you're up and running with JP1, when you need to add a code for a device, the chances are usually good that someone else has already created one, so all you have to do is tweek it for your remote and personal preferences and then you can load it up. Which is certainly easier than having to learn each button individually, which seems to be what you wanted to do.

In fact, we often have to tell people off for being lazy when they post asking for upgrades even though they have a learning remote and could create one themselves by learning.
