Button doesn't work unless pressed twice.

Post by srturner47 »

I have a very strange problem that I hope somebody can shed some light on. I have been using a slightly modified Remote Master file that I found here for my Moxi STB. There seems to be one small problem. The record button doesn't work on the first push. If I push it again or hold it down, it works without any issues.

I tried learning the code for it from the Moxi remote. The learned code works fine, but the code seems to be identical to the one in the Remote Master file as far as I can tell.

My RCRP05B has a code (2187) for this device, so I tried using that. It works fine, but I don't know of any way to extract an internal code into remote master so that I can use it on my Insignia remote.

Now the really weird part -- I tried learning the record button on my RCRP05B remote from the Insignia remote. The learned signal actually works where the original one does not!!! I don't get it. :(

One last note: I thought there might be some issue with the Insignia remote, so I used the same Remote Master file and installed it on the RCRP05B. Same problem -- I had to either hold the record button down or press it twice to make it work.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

That's standard operating procedure for UEI remotes, I'm afraid. They always make you press the RECORD button twice in order to avoid accidentally starting a recording that you didn't intend to start.

Typically this is just in video device modes (VCR, DVD, etc), sometimes changing the device mode to CBL or TV gets rid of it.

The most common way to fix it is to re-program the button with a keymove, but learning also works (as you discovered).

Ack! I feel silly! :) Thanks for the help. I thought the whole thing was very strange. Yes, I do have it assigned as a VCR/DVD. I'll change it to something else and if that doesn't work I'll just use learning.

Thanks again!
