|
|
I had an old URC-9910 w/ rf base. Remote stopped working, bought an 8910 and am trying to convert it to rf. Beings that it has the same circuit board that shouldn't be too hard except for getting the right part. What I am trying to figure out is where I can get a hold of an rf ring (like the one inside the URC-9910) to put inside the 8910 to give it rf capabilities. Any thoughts or ideas? |

I know I've read about this surgery in the forums, but I have another idea.
Have you read about those next gen ir extenders?

If I understood what I was reading, and that's a big IF, Then there is a kit for $40 that can turn any remote into an RF remote, and then $17 transmitters to add additional remotes to the system. And I think MaskedMan was saying that one of the transmitters (433 or 418) interacts with the 8910 base. Ask MaskeMan to make sure I understood him correctly. _________________ Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Just to be clear, the item normally referred to as a ring is actually the modem. This is a round piece of white plastic about an inch in diameter with very thin wire wound around it.
What you're looking for is an RF puck, which is a stand alone PCB with components soldered onto it. This isn't a part that you can just pick up as it's a custom UEI part, so you would need to source it from another remote. _________________ Rob

I read a post where the 9910 had its puck surgically removed and deglued and transplanted into a 8910? _________________ Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Yes, it has been done, I personally converted a 15-2116 into a 15-2117 by doing this surgery. The 8910 is identical to the 9910 except for the puck.
The difficult part is getting the puck out of the source remote. _________________ Rob

Is there any cheap remotes that have an rf puck in them that will work with the 8910? |

RF remotes are never cheap, unless they're in really bad condition. You would need a beat up URC-9910 or 15-2117. It's possible the puck from an old URC-9800 or 15-1995 would also fit, but I can't guarantee it. _________________ Rob

Neither of the Next Generation remote extenders, 433mhz or 418mhz will communiacte directly with 9910 basestation. Nor will 9910 communicate with NG spaceship RF basestation. But the NG works very well, I would get it instead frankensteining the 8910. _________________ Edmund |

Guess I will look into that option. If anyone has an old URC-9910 laying around that is broken I would be willing to buy it for parts. Thanks again for all the help. |

I have 4 9800's not being used, the backlights don't work and they stopped learning commands. _________________ Edmund |

Do you know if they have the same rf ring as the 9910? If so, what would you charge for them? |

I have a RF remote HTpro aka 9811B00.
LCD isn't right because there's a black something covering the device name. You can still see the setup code. Perhaps in a year or two it'll get covered as well. No, you cannot get that part anywhere.
Everything else WORKS GREAT.
What you can do is maybe move your LCD part into this one from your 8910 if you know how. Might be simpler than moving the RF section. I intend to keep the RF box because I need it in a long room for my other HTpro.
Send me PM if interested. _________________ Liz

Rob, do you know if the 9811 has the same internal rf puck as the 9910? |

Yes it does, it's the same remote just re-labeled for a different market.
As the only thing wrong with Liz's remote is the LCD screen, I would strongly recommend that instead of transplanting her RF puck into your remote, you transplant your LCD screen onto her remote, which is really easy to do. _________________ Rob

And probably the back cover off your 8910, since many of the seude backs like the HT-PRO has turn into sticky mess. _________________ Edmund |
