Fortec Star FS-4200

Post by Gimpylung »

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help, I'm looking for a bin file for a Fortec Star FS-4200 FTA sat receiver for use with a Slingbox Pro

1. Device: Fortec Star FS-4200
2. Type of device: Satellite receiver FTA
3. Year: 2005
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Slingbox
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? n/a?

Probably a tall order I know as I don't have any learning stuff. I've tried the other Fortec codes in the download sections here and elsewhere but none of them worked.

Another question, I have a USB IR receiver on my PC for use with Windows Media Center. When I bring the satellite receiver remote to the same room as my PC and push some buttons the led on the front of the PC USB IR receiver lights. Is there any program I can download that will interface with the USB receiver and allow me to 'learn' the satellite remote?

EDIT: I've been playing with Eventghost with MCE plugin and it detects key presses on my satellite remote via the PC USB receiver and lists them as events with name like MceRemote.10F (I pressed Menu) or MceRemote.101 (I pressed 1). All buttons on the remote generate one of these codes. Can this data be used with Remotemaster?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Unfortunately, just because you have a USB IR receiver that you use with an "MCE" remote, doesn't tell us anything at all about what protocol it's using. That's because unless you're using a genuine Microsoft branded remote, there is no standard protocol used for MCE remotes.

That said, there are at least 4 different Fortec Sat receivers listed via the Lookup tool. All are using NEC1 protocol with various Dev1 and Dev2s (4/4, 128/128, 2/2, 8/-).

There are quite a few Fortec Star files in the File Section. Have you tried any one of those? Most manufacturers reuses the IR codes amongst their own models. Perhaps you can find a compatible file for your specific model.

Also, looked up your device in Logitech's Harmony Database and found its there: "Satellite | Fortec Star | FS4200 | ok". Which means that Alan Richey might be able to assist you by creating a remote control update for the Slingbox.

Sorry, my bad, feeling kind of n00bish.

I can confirm that the RV bin for the Fortec Star Innovative is working for the Fortec Star FS-4200.

I'd tried all the rest, was sure I'd tried that one too but evidentally I hadn't as it wasn't in my download history.

Really grateful for your time eferz and cauer29
