Du Motorola VIP 1216

I have a Harmony 525 and am preparing to follow the excellent help on this site to custom produce a bin file. Before I do however, has anyone already done this for the 1216? DU is a telco in the UAE and they've recently upgraded all users to the Motorola VIP 1216 cable box, so my slingbox (RV) is now uncontrollable! I've searched hard, and see references to AT&T U-Verse mainly, but since they are not listed anywhere either, it's no help.
Much obliged if anyones trod this path.

We haven't seen the VIP 1216 box before, but we have seen a couple of other VIP boxes, so I would suggest that you try these two upgrades first (and they both use different protocols) to see if either of them come close:

Rob beat me to it. I was going to suggest that 1200 because I've seen reference to the vip 1200/ 1216 in the Replay files.

Thanks folks. Worked a treat. The help files for RemoteMaster were pretty good and using the 1223e rmdu on TDC-38, the device came under control immediately ... nearly fell off my seat

. One comment on the mechanics - on Windows 7 the vbs didn't fire, so needed to get RM working in XP mode, which it did without objection.
I'll post the bin file on the site ... and most importantly ... THANKS AGAIN for your great service

VIP 1216 is the DVR unit, and the VIP1200 has no hard drive (at least in the new ones). Otherwise, all the codes should work exactly the same for both boxes.

I have a similar issue with the same provider (Du/UAE) using Motorola VIP1216. I downloaded the Bin file (
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=8720) C2010_RV.BIN and updated it on my new Slingbox 500. The remote appears but it kind of greyed out, once I click nothing seems to work.
Any ideas folks?
thank you !!!

Yes, the 500 needs the _PL file not the _RV file. I've posted it at
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=11609
if it works I will update the package with both BIN files and a set of instructions.

Thank you, the grey'd out issue got resolved but its not flipping any channels nor any other commands.
Any other ideas?

OK, I was just using that previous file, I assumed the codes were correct. Apparently not. Try my version:

OK, to be fair to you I didn't include my standard set of instructions, which tell you NEVER to say 'it doesn't work'. It's a useless statement and gives us no information. I never understand why people do that, they would never consider phoning a car mechanic and saying 'my car doesn't work, what's wrong with it", they would describe the symptoms. So here is what I tell users to do:
=============================================
If you have problems please do NOT just report back it 'doesn't work', that is totally useless for someone trying to understand what is going on. So please report the following:
1. Was there any error message after you typed in the Code and tapped the Power button ?
2. Did you give the Power command plenty of time to react ? (I have a DVR that takes about 6-8 seconds to power up/down)
3. After completing the setup (regardless of whether the Power button worked) do any of the other buttons work ?
4. Have you used a Digital Camera to confirm the IR Blaster is actually firing when you tap the Power button ? (Watch the tip of the IR Blaster thorugh the viewfinder while you tap a button. You should see a white (not red) flash)
5. Have you experimented with the placement of the IR Blaster ? On some devices this is critical so don't give up too quickly.
6. Are you sure the device is working correctly using the real remote ?

Fair enough Alan,
Here we go
If you have problems please do NOT just report back it 'doesn't work', that is totally useless for someone trying to understand what is going on. So please report the following:
1. Was there any error message after you typed in the Code and tapped the Power button ?
--> There was no error, on the remote screen it seems to be sending out the command as the screen freezes for a second but the command doesn't execute.
2. Did you give the Power command plenty of time to react ? (I have a DVR that takes about 6-8 seconds to power up/down)
--> Have tried different positions, closer to the STB/DVR with and without the extended transmitter. Allowing upto 30 Seconds.
3. After completing the setup (regardless of whether the Power button worked) do any of the other buttons work ?
--> On the remote end- the only buttons tend to work are the Volume Up/Down (but I would guess that's not sending any commands to the STB/DVR).
4. Have you used a Digital Camera to confirm the IR Blaster is actually firing when you tap the Power button ? (Watch the tip of the IR Blaster thorugh the viewfinder while you tap a button. You should see a white (not red) flash)
--> Correct, verified it before posting a request here and did it again.
5. Have you experimented with the placement of the IR Blaster ? On some devices this is critical so don't give up too quickly.
--> Haven't tried it with any other device. Do you think I can setup to change channels on my Sony Bravia TV or the Home Theater ?
6. Are you sure the device is working correctly using the real remote ?
--> Device Works find with the Original Remote which came with it.
Question:
Is there a way I can get Slingbox to learn the remote which came with the Motorola VIP1216E?
Would appreciate comments & help please

Motorola lists these IR protocols which may be supplied:
1216--RC5, RCMM, and NEC. We call RCMM Nokia, usually Nokia32
1216E--RC5, RCMM, NEC and rstep. rstep is a Manchester encoded signal (like e.g. RC5), and I'm know one version of rstep is what we call CanalSat (22 bits). I think TDC may also be termed a version of rstep, but with 17 bits.
The point is that plausibly this 1216E may use a different protocol than the 1232E files that I assume Al is using. It may be worthwhile to try the 1200 Slingbox files.

Tried loading 1200 Bin files (both PL & RV) remotely (i.e. using Watch.slingbox.com from the Internet), got the following error
----
There was an error connecting to your Slingbox. Please try again.
[Code:W211]

I will try again once I'm back home in a few hours.
