JP1 Remotes

Does anyone know if this remote is actually upgradeable? I had one laying around that I no longer used, and popped the cover off and found spots where you could solder wires on for JP1. It's pins reading JP1-X(1-6). My thought would be to change the entire keymap so that it doesn't control the receiver at all, but where the PC can take commands from the remote. I would need software that would accept the commands to execute options. With that, I understand that I should try IR Girder, unless someone knows something better for PC execution. At the same time, I have a Dish 21.0 remote which I would like to create a macro on so that when I press SAT that it turns on my Dish Receiver and TV at the same time, then set the TV to the HDMI input then switch the remote to SAT mode to ensure easy operation. I know the 20.0 board say URC-2007BA0 Rev: 03. Any information would be helpful on where to go with this and what needs to be done is appreciated. Thanks. -G

You'd be breaking new ground here since no dish remotes are JP1-able. If you can't manually program macros on these remotes (which you can't), chances are you can't add them via whatever interface you manage to cook up either. My advice would be to buy an actual JP1 remote (they're very cheap). Then you can do anything you like. PC remotes are quite cheap as well.

Whether you use girder or not depends on how many commands you need. Your average MCE remote has several essential PC functions plus a few keyboard shortcuts and sometimes even a mouse. The last one of those I bought was $7 shipped and works perfectly with my PC and JP1 remote, no 3rd party software like girder is required. I use it to launch 4 apps, browse the web, use iTunes and control a media player.
