Did you try this upgrade?
It "should" work.

Thanks for the suggestion, 3FG, I have seen the file but haven't tried it yet. The reason is that this upgrade is RMDU and I have never used RM before - I use JP1 only very occasionaly and my setup is KM and IR.

Can someone please convert for me the suggested above RMDU file into the KM-compatible TXT upgrade that can be used in my 8811 (or 8910).
Thanks.

PS. I probably should look into starting to use RM, no excuses here...

Thanks.

Here you are: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=8316

I did it by copying and pasting - so it should use the same functions/buttons as the RM upgrade.

I did a compare of the output upgrade hex from RM and KM and it matches - so I don't think I made any errors.

Here's the output from the RM file anyway, in case you just wanted to paste that straight into IR.
Code:
Upgrade Code 0 = 04 20 (TV/1056) NEC Plasma 50XM4 (RM v1.98beta8)
 B6 00 DC FE F5 E7 E7 B6 18 55 18 95 18 15 E7 28
 E7 C4 E7 FD E7 7C E7 BC E7 3C 18 BF 18 3F 18 6F
 18 EF E7 D2 E7 36 E7 F2 E7 72 E7 B2 E7 32 E7 D2
 E7 FC 18 0F E7 5C E7 BE E7 4C E7 7E E7 4A
KeyMoves
 25 F4 04 20 E7 3E«Single: OEM Remote 17»
End

You certainly should - RM is very easy to use. Smile

Thanks Jim.

Uploaded the converted upgrade into my 8910 - uploaded OK, LCD display on the remote shows the correct code (1056) when TV is selected, but all to no avail - TV set does not respond to remote buttonpresses.

Any other ideas?

(to 3FG: I guess it was the case of those inverted commas around your "should" word... :-)

You could try pasting in the RM output from above directly into IR - in case I did make a mistake in my KM file - I don't think I did as I compared the outputs - but anything's possible - I suppose.

edit: I just checked - and there is a download for the Harmony.

Give me an hour or so (plus 20 minutes for swearing at the Harmony software) and I'll download it to my wife's Harmony and have a look.

Thanks Jim.

Just had a look at your location... :-)
I am in Sydney Metro too, if this helps in any way...

No, there's no mistake in your Cut'n'Paste - it is 100% identical to your TXT upgrade above - so, neither works.

Ok - I learned the numerals, power, arrows, select, exit, volume and channel keys from the Harmony.

All decoded as NEC1, device 134, subdevice 5
These are the EFCs for those keys
Code:
Key     EFC
1       181
2       185
3       183
4       187
5       180
6       184
7       182
8       186
9       053
0       057
Up      120
Down    118
Right   171
Left    167
Select  245
Menu    116
Exit    122
VOL+    055
VOL-    059
CH+     052
CH-     056
Power   058

I put a test KM upgrade at:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=8317

Let me know if those keys work to control your TV when you load the test upgrade, and if they do, I can learn the others from the Harmony for you.

They work like a charm, Jim - you're a star.

If you could "learn'n'post" the rest, that'd be wonderful.

Just in case, here's the direct link to the PXT-42XD1 Owners Manual - Page9 shows Remote with all its buttons.

Thanks a lot for doing this for me - I owe you a sixpack... :)

Give me an hour or so and I'll post the rest - I hate the Harmony. Evil or Very Mad

Idea It's messy enough doing these remote to remote learns for lots of keys that I think I may need to get one of Tommy's IR widgets in the long term

I really appreciate your kindness, Jim.
I am in no hurry - when you have a chance...

Out of curiousity: I know nothing about the Logitech Harmony and its software, but what's the format of "upgrade" files for it? If it is a simple text format, like for JP1 remotes, couldn't we just work out the button codes from the Harmony upgrade file?
But, as you obviously know your JP1 business, I am guessing that the things aren't all that simple with Harmony...

No - the Harmony download is a closed format.

I think it's a binary format "image" which their software uploads to the entire remote at once - your config is stored on their servers - just one of the things I hate about Harmonys...

You can only select it in the horrid Harmony software and load it into the remote - then you can learn from the Harmony just like it was the OEM remote.

There's been some efforts to reverse engineer Harmony software at a Linux project called Concordance - but that's more about USB communication with the remote and saving backup configurations - they weren't anywhere near hacking or understanding protocols and keycodes/efcs last time I looked.

Anyway..

Here's your upgrade:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=8318

All the Functions and EFCs on KM's Functions tab should be correct in that file

You may want to change the button assignments I made on the Buttons tab to where you'd prefer them to be.

Enjoy...

edited: to add link to Concordance project...

Jim, I hated the remote-to-remote learning process too. I could never ever remember what I put where and half of my learns were always bad. With a widget I find the capturing process to be so much easier. I might have to stop and type after every key, but I *usually* can remember what I just pressed, and I don't have to remember where I put it, so I don't mind learning anymore. I found remote-to-remote learning to be an ordeal. I know some people have absolutely no problem with it, but for me I can't read sideways, and I'm not fast enough with my hands to keep learning going and I always end up timing out and have start the 975 procedure over. If my DH will press the OEM button so I can capture remote to remote learning isn't so bad, but he doesn't like to encourage the hobby so he'll only help ever once in a while............. You'll really like the widget if you are going to be learning lots of remotes, or if you are going to go into signal studies.

The new software changes have really made the widget indispensable. Graham has done an excellent job of making the Widget my best friend.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Thanks again and again for this, Jim.

Key mapping looks perfect - I will not change it.

Obviously, you are an author for this upgrade - do you want to post it to files section? One little thing to tidy up there: when you copy it in KM and then paste to IR, the "Note" field still says "Test file for NEC PXT-42XD1 (KM v9.19)" - you may want to remove the words "Test file for".

Regarding Harmony - I take it as that there's no file conaining the uploaded image, right? Oh, well... If the "dump" or the "image" can be saved in any way, I wouldn't mind having a look at it... just to see if it can be reverse-eng'ed.

So, the original issue has been resolved, thanks to all involved, and to Jim - personally.

It's already in the Files - TV section Smile
Just clicking the link you probably didn't notice ...

I fixed that and re-uploaded it.
