I'm trying to help this person in the Sling Community at http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thr ... ote-codes/ but I am struggling as he seems reluctant to tell me exactly what his problem is and like in this post just keeps repeating '..it doesn't work..', which unfortunately doesn't give me much of a clue towards the location of the problem.

I hear you Alan, some people don't know how to be helped, so personally I wouldn't bother.

Maybe the LD stands for learning disabled, since the user can't seem to remember either the question, nor his own name "ldpops, heygregg, ldgregg" between sessions.

Oops that was mean of me, but yes this kind of user is extremely frustrating.

This users evil looking icon seems to imply that they are actually trying to be annoying.

did not mean to get people upset

This is one of the best places to get help, but if we are to help you also need to help us and you seem determinded not to do so.

I have now told you what I need to know FIVE times. Once here, three times in the main Sling Community forum at http://www.slingcommunity.com/forum/thr ... ote-codes/ and again in the Control Junkies forum at http://www.slingcommunity.com/group/dis ... smt-h3090/

How many times do I have to ask you ?

Anyway, let's try for a 6th (and final) time. In the README file in the the Custom Remote you downloaded and tried to install there is the following statement:

=======================================
If you have problems do NOT just report that it 'doesn't work', that is totally useless for someone trying to understand what is going on. So report the following:

1. Was there any error message after you typed in the Code (and Tapped the Power button in V2.0) ?

2. Did you give the Power command plenty of time to react ? (I have a DVR that takes about 6-8 seconds to power up/down)

3. After completing the setup (regardless of whether the Power button worked) do any of the other buttons work ?

4. Have you used a Digital Camera to confirm the IR Blaster is actually firing when you tap the Power button ?

5. Have you experimented with the placement of the IR Blaster ?

============================================

And yet you consistently keep stating 'it doesn't work' and don't tell me anything else. Can you be surprised I am getting frustrated ?

You really don't like sharing information do you ? Why not tell us what the problem was then ?

That way we will know better for the next person who asks for help.

Gregg, look at it this way. Suppose you work at a furniture store and a customer buys a table lamp from you then calls to say that it doesn't work. So you ask them a bunch of questions like...

1) Did you put a light bulb in it?
2) Was it a good light bulb, did you test it in another lamp?
3) Did you plug in the lamp to the electricity?

And in response to your questions, the customer said "I tried it and it doesn't work, PLEASE HELP". And let's suppose that you repeat the questions 4 or 5 times and each time the customer comes back with the exact same reply. Now, what would your next move be?

Understand that that is the exact position that we are at with you. Personally, like many other experts who have been doing this for a number of years, once I've asked the question a few times without getting an answer, I just ignore the user. Our time is limited.
