|
|
I need some help please. I have a 1056B01 cable remote from BrightHouse Networks cable and it is JP1.3. I built the JP1.x interface by Tommy Tyler (3 transistor type) and I have IR v8.02 and I d/l'd the latest RDF files today.
My problem is that when I attempt to download from remote, the USB to serial adapter lights blink normally and the cable device button on the 1056B01 flashes twice but then a notice pops up in IR that says "Failed to open JP1.x interface".
Is this an RDF issue or driver or what ? any advice is greatly appreciated !
Thanks,

most likely a driver issue (or hardware)
Do any of the lights on the remote blink when you try to download?
Are you sure you have the COM port right and the port settings right?
Are you using a COM port on your computer or some kind of USB/COM adapter? Is that configured properly? _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

Thanks for your reply uncle, yes the lights do blink. Although my USB to serial adapter always works fine, after reading your reply I decided to connect directly to the serial D9 on the back of the PC and it works great. I can now upload and download to the remote.
I guess I should have tried this earlier but the adapter has always worked with everything else.
Thanks ! |

That's good news.
The USB adapter should work, my first efforts in JP1.x remotes came with the home-made serial adapter w/ USB adapter. my guess is that you have the bit rate, start, stop, etc configured wrong on the USB serial port.
But now that you have one working, you can find out what the settings are on that and try those on the USB.
If you're going to do this a lot, I'd recommend getting the USB thumb cable from Tommy. It's rock solid and is a lot less hassle. _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

Is the cable pointing to the TOP of the remote when it is plugged in? |
