I just recently started using this remote and extender. I had my macros working nicely, then I added an ir repeater to my system, which seems to be a little more sensitive, and my macros aren't working. The macros for my Dish PVR 722 seem to have a duration problem (using the troubleshooting method from the readme). The readme says there are a variety of approaches to fixing it, but I couldn't find any description of those approaches.

I use the 1056 with extender with a Dish ViP622 (same as your box with a smaller hard drive and silver paint)

Can you give me an idea of what kinds of issues you're having?

Anything in a macro won't work at all. I tested if it was a duration or timing problem (as described in the readme under troubleshooting) and it seems to be a duration problem. Normal buttons will not work unless held down to increase the duration.

Just to be clear so the problem can be localized.

Are you saying that NOTHING in a macro works in ANY circumstance? Or are you saying that only the Dish commands do not work in macros AND when pressing regular non-macro DISH functions, you must hold the button down?

If the symptom is limited to Dish commands in all cases, then some expert will probably have to provide you a tweaked Dishnetwork protocol to replace the built-in one that will increase its duration.

If the symptom applies to OTHER cases, then digging into the extender will be necessary, although I use that extender for 6 devices and it works fine, including macros (but I don't have Dish).

Does this macro work when the IR Repeater is not involved?

Or is the repeater the issue? Signals vary in FREQUENCY as well as duration. The frequency may be too high for the IRRepeater to see reliablly.

vickyg, the macro works fine without the ir repeater. With the ir repeater, the dish commands do not work in a macro, and non-macro dish commands must be held down to work.

sounds like you have a duration issue with the repeater in the loop. I'm assuming that you are using the built-in protocol?


What you will need is for one of the experts to give you a Dish Network protocol that you can use as an upgrade and tell you how to tweak the repeat timing in that protocol. The good news is that the Dish upgrade protocols do exist and there is documentation in here on how to tweak them. I've not needed it for a long, long time with my Dish stuff (and I have been using a lot of IR repeaters BTW)

Personally I still think its probably a Frequency issue, and you might want to check the IR Repeater's Specs. The DishTV Protocol runs at 57.5 khz which is a lot higher than most of the protocols I've seen.

We need to know which setup code you are using. If its an upgrade we'd need to see the upgrade file.

The Dish unit here described is 722.

I do have an upgrade for Atlas 1056 in signature, but is for Dish721. Perhaps similar? I just posted it here

This upgrade works, or at least says so in IRscope and matches the signals done by 6131.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my computer and can hardly find anything. But I think the first protocol in the Notes section of KM describes the repeater. The bottom part has to do with unit selection on the fly.

The 722 is more like the 622 than the 721. The 721 was sort of the castoff at Dish. It was their only play into open source and ran an embedded Linux OS. Everything else is home-grown with some form of PowerTV as the UI layer.

The 622 and 722 are essentially the same box with the exeption of the paint job (622=silver, 722=black) and a bigger hard disk in the 722.

I know there are 622 upgrades on the server, I put one of them there. Most Dish boxes use all of the same codes as well so (with the possible exception of the 721) pretty much any of their DVR boxes should work.

vicky, I am using a device upgrade that I originally downloaded from here, then tweaked. I uploaded it to the diagnosis section:

Also I checked the specs of the ir repeater and it claims a frequency range of 34-60 kHz.

Try the upgrade below. Per Elizabeth's comments I've changed the number of repeats to 5. The original protocol had 02 as the minimum number of repeats. Notice the Bold 05, that increases the minimum number of presses to 05. If you need more, adjust that number. Copy everything from the word Upgrade through the word End and paste it into the protocols tab in IR. This will override the built in protocol.
