Phantom Keys

Would someone please explain what phantom keys are and how to use them with a 15-2117. Thanks.
Phantom keys are buttons that don't physically exist.
Q. Why would you want to use such a button?
A. For functions that you want to use in macros, but do not need to be able to access directly from the keypad. The two most common examples are "discrete on" and "discrete off".
