Programming keys to send out numbers

Post by pborgstrom »

I have found hacks for DZ260 using a oneforall remote URC-7040. These hacks use the Magic button. I have a URC-9660 remote which lacks the magic button. Can I program my remote using JP1 to do the following;

To program Button 1
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00189
5. Finally press button 1 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)

i.e., make the button 1 send the code 00189.

Thanks.

Hello Per,

Those numbers are called EFC's and using the 994 command is for setting up a "keymove". What you want to do is setup an "EFC style keymove".

The Magic key might also be called "P", "SET", or "SETUP".

I'm not familiar with the URC-9660 remote, so I couldn't find an exact answer. Not all UEI remotes can send EFC numbers, and do EFC style keymoves.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Apparently key moves on the 9960 are done through setup menus. What may work would be to follow the instructions in the manual for a key move (buried in the menu called "Other") and when you get to the step where you pick the source key, substitute "Setup" 189 (I'm assuming the 9960 uses 3 digit codes).

is the urc-9660 the same as the urc-9960 remote? Coming out of Lansing MI I have taken the wrong road more than once when one branch says I69 and the other I96, so I was trying to be careful here.

The 9960B01 says EFCdigits = 5, The older 9960 doesn't say anything about how many EFC digits it has. I believe this indicates that the old urc9960 takes 3 digit EFCs. , so Per may need to drop the 2 leading zeros in his hack.

Good catch. I must be dyslexic. Further research shows the 9660 and 9960 look very similar, but I have no idea about the 3 or 5 digit EFC's now.

Per, see what happens if you press Setup followed by 189 or 00189. Then you'll know what works before you try to program the key move.
