JP1 Remotes

I'm scared to put the extender in. Because I read the Readme file which says that to disable the extender you have to use a special button.
I have no problem using a special button.

But I dread a situation like, for instance the following:
I will code some bad macro which loops forever, or will change some protocol and crash the remote.
Done it many times on jp1 remotes, where the solution was remove the batteries, do 981 reset, reload the file, fix, and be done with it.

So how would I handle a disaster such as this?
Will the special button work? - how can it on a crashed, looping or otherwise broken remote?

Step by step rescue instructions for dummies possible?

The remote will restart when you take the batteries out, the only difference from other remotes is that you don't have to re-activate the extender when the power goes away.

that's what the special button is for, to deactivate. Since the extender is always active, reloading the remote will re-enable the deactivate sequence (as long as it is on a defined key or if you use the long-press-deactivate feature)

Don't worry, you're not going to go to never-never land. My 1056 OCAP has been pretty much rock solid for about 9 months now.

OK. I haven't gotten to that point yet. So are you saying that when the batteries are out, and I put them in, the extender continues to be there and functioning unbroken, and if I wanted to for instance reset, I'd deactivate and then do 981 reset? If yes, that's not that hard.

Bill, I have this old protocol for jp1 remotes which permits you to switch Unit# of, for instance Tivo or Dish, on the fly. It won't switch - I'm using standard, unextended base here.

"0" in Comcast is CBL, so the keymove is on CBL. It looks like the code will transfer, it doesn't crash, but the keymove is not switching the unit. Any obvious clues?

Edit: Ignore Advanced select. I sorted it out - needed to add few bytes to the Dish protocol
