Hello and thank you to vickyg2003 for sending me here.

Sorry I'm new to this and I hope I word this out ok.
I'm having a problem with the RCA rcrp05b remote. I can not get it to turn on and off my yamaha HTR-6130 receiver using different buttons, the same button or even to have any button turn it on. Off I've done it's explained later in this. I do not have a JP1 cord, and want to do this with just receiver, advanced, and discrete codes. I have tried the receiver code 0176. Under that code I used discrete codes 00246 and 00248 and they did nothing. This remote uses 5 digit codes. All the other codes work. In fact on mine discrete code 00242 I found brings me to I what I think is a factory menu. Now the weird thing I've found is that on both receiver codes 2061 and 1815 when I press the power button it turns off. No other key will turn it back on. The volume and menu and even most of the other options that work on receiver code 0176 still work. 2061 is almost dead on, 1815 is close. I tried discrete codes 00006, 00010 and 00246, 00248 just to see while in receiver codes 2061 and 1815 and neither worked. Sorry I can't link to the post but I read that some yamaha receivers use protocol 122 for most options but protocol 126 for power? What that means I don't really know to be honest but maybe it'll help in the answer. Thank you very much if you read through all this and thank you for your help.

Pete

I replied in your first thread in the non-JP1 forum. Anyway, use EFC 16037 to turn on the receiver. That will work with 1815, and most likely with 2016. See the other message for more detail.

I tried using that code by setting my remote to receiver code 1815 and 2061 then pressing setup followed by typing in 16037 each time and it did not turn on. I'm starting to think this isn't an easy fix Very Happy Does anybody think I need to change a setting on my receiver, or maybe the remote can't do this for some reason?

Please check whether 17029 shuts it off. If it doesn't, then probably I'm not doing a good job of explaining how to test. 17029 is the EFC for Power using 1815. In other words, 17029 should have exactly the same effect as if you had pressed the power button.

Ok. Tried using 17029 and that worked. System shut off. Tried it on 2061 and it didn't. Just to let you know. While I was at it I tried the 16037 code you gave me again. Nothing. This seems very odd. Also, thank you for your help so far 3FG.

Well, that's interesting. A previous thread says that dev 126, obc 126 and dev 126, obc 127 worked for the RX-V363 receiver. I believe that is actually the same unit as the 6130. However, the previous poster doesn't mention exactly what went into his functioning upgrade, e.g. which protocol he used.

I'm not sure what is going on. I would like you to try an experiment on 2061, since it clearly uses a different protocol than 1815. Using 2061, try 16997 and see if it turns the unit off. Maybe 15973 will turn it on. I'm just speculating here that 2061 is a 2 device combo protocol rather than the 4 device combo that 1815 implements. The results will help us to understand what setup code 2061 is, even if it doesn't fix your problem!

Tried 16997 and 15973 on 2061 and once again nothing. Very Happy Not to be a bother but could you explain what 126.126 and 126.127 are? Also how these different 4 digit receiver codes work? (or just link me to where I can read about it) There were a few others that kind of worked in controlling the receiver functions, well as close as the rest do. Just they do nothing with the power. These are receiver codes 1276, 1376, and 1476. I don't know if this will help, but I figured I should let you know. Once again thank you for helping me and not giving up.

Well, while I'm chewing over that info, how about just using the RCA remote to learn Power On from the original remote?

And, just to make sure, both 1815 and 2016 can turn the unit off with the power button, but only 1815 can do it by using EFC 17029?

Well this was interesting. I had tried to learn the on button before under 0176 trying to set it to the list or live button and it hadn't work. Maybe my error, but I was pretty sure I was doing it correct. I tried to learn it to the on demand button in 1815 and it worked. So thanks for the recommending to try that again!

As to the second question, correct. 1815 and 2061 both turn the unit off with the power button. Only 1815 using EFC 17029.

I would still like to use the codes if it can, but at least now I'm not going to return this. Thank you!

OK, and with 1815, try 16005, 16021, and 16053. I have high hopes that 16005 will turn it on.

RCVR/2061 uses protocol id 01AD and 4 variable bytes so you can't use this with EFC codes.

0176,1176,1276,1376 all use NEC1 00 A1 00 fixed bytes which is device 122. Power is 07 except for 1276 where it is 87.

1476 and 1815 uses protocol id 011A and A1,00,81,00 fixed bytes. A1 is for device 122. 81 is for device 126. 1476 uses Power=8700(should be same as 1276). 1815 uses Power=0140. The 40 in the second byte selects the 81(device 126). You might want to try EFC=16005 (bytes are 81 40) with setup code 1815 which should correspond to device=126, obc=126.

It worked! Under 1815, 16005 turned the unit on. Thanks for all your time and help.
