I have a yamaha htr 5760 receiver which is not accepting the built in codes. I have used remotemaster to open a file for one of the pre-built yamaha files. I then pasted the code into IR.exe as described in the guides. I downloaded irtowav, and set the directory in IR.exe. I then exported the wav. However, when I try to upgrade my remote, it merely says "downloading" for 30 seconds or so, then says "error" and exits setup. I tried different wavs, different speakers to transmit the signal, and no luck. I do not have a JP1 chord, nor do I wish to purchase one for 30 dollars if there is a way to transmit for free.

Thanks

I think since you've gotten the "downloading" message this means your modem is working. If you post your IR file and your RM or KM file maybe someone would try the code to see what's wrong. If you are new to the JP1 world you might be making a procedural mistake in setting up your files.

Actually, I think that just means that the 8910 has modem programming in it, if the modem were working, there's another indication like the red LED flashing or the screen changing, I forget exactly.

My immediate guess is that the modem has become disconnected and needs to be re-soldered.

The red light flashes, if that is what is an indication. How would I check if the modem is disconnected?

If the red light flashes in response to the sound coming from the speakers, I think that confirms that your modem is still connected.

Ok, it does not flash in response to the sound, just stays on. I meant that the red light comes on when I press download and then goes off after the error.

Then that tends to imply that the modem is broken. I forget exactly how the remote responds but it should be obvious that it's responding to the sound.

The modem is the white coil over to the right of this picture (see the thread that Capn linked to for more discussion)

Note: you won't have the RF puck on your remote as you have an 8910.

OK, the wire is broken. I will try to fix this and see if I can get it to work.
