I've been setting up a new (for me) Kameleon 8-in-1 (RS 15-2138). While discoed from RS, apparently someone has a whole box of brand new ones for sale on eBay.
I have read about all the tools and downloaded all the software, but I decided to see how much I could get done out of the box. Surprisingly, with the learning feature I was able to configure my Samsung 32A450 TV, the Samsung HT-Z310 home theater system, and my ReplayTV with only a half dozen keys needing to be learned. I even managed to disable the remote finder and the motion sensor to save batteries, so I'm close to perfect.
However, I find that the 7 second or so backlight on time between keypresses is too short and I'd love to trade battery life for say 10-15secs?
Is there a way to change the delay time using a code?
If not, there seems to be an extender that was dead-ended for this remote that did allow the delay time to be changed. Does anyone have the extender so that I can at least experiment with it?
It was mentioned in the brief discussion of an extender that the backlight timing is affected by the extender load prior to the extender being active. Could it be that I could just setup a standard non-extended config in IR and change the appropriate EEPROM data that holds this value?
Thanks for any help you can provide! |

For anyone else interesting in picking one up on ebay, use this search to find all of the Kameleons on ebay, and use this search to just get the 15-2138 remotes. _________________ Rob

I know in the 9960B01 there was a way to change the backlight timeout from the keypad. However, this was not documented in the users manual. There was no such way in the original 9960. there was also a way to change the brightness from the keypad as well IIRC.
But I'm not an expert on the RS Kameleon since it was sort of a pain in the neck because you had to use the pogo adapter to put a cable on it. I never tried one because of that.
Sorry to not be much help here, but I'm not sure that anyone really studied the RS remote since it wasn't real popular here. _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

The brightness, motion sensor, and finder sensor are all documented in the RS manual with 9xx codes. Can you tell me the method to change the backlight timeout on the 9960B01 and I can give it a try on my remote? |
