There's a sticky post at the top of this forum with a template of questions that we need answered in order to help with requests like this.

Sorry, I didn't read the sticky first, Rob
Here's the relevant info as to the RMDU I am looking for:

1. Device: Strong Leap S1 (Skyworth) https://www.strong-eu.com/en-uk/product ... p-s1-273c7
2. Type of device: Android Settop Box
3. Year: 2021
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-1280v2
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? I have tried to learn the buttons to my URC-1280v2 (as described in the URC user manual), but the URC did not register anything. Maybe the original remote is bluetooth?
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool? Yes, didn't find anything
12. If you have a OARUSB04G (or similar) remote, have you tried simpleset.com? n/a

Let's focus on this first then, because if it isn't an IR remote, and you don't find any info online to suggest that it does also support IR signals, then there's nothing we can do. Ok, so take a digital camera, like the one in your phone, and look at the sending end of the remote through the camera when you press a remote button, if you see a flashing light in the camera (the naked eye can't see this), then it is an IR remote and we'll need to help you learn how to learn, if there's no flashing light, it's not an IR remote.

I just Google'd "does the strong LEAP-S1 support IR remotes?" and got this response:

Yes, the STRONG LEAP-S1 Android TV box is compatible with IR (infrared) remotes.
While the original remote that comes with the device uses both Bluetooth and voice control functions, the box itself has an IR expansion port on the rear panel, specifically for connecting an external infrared receiver (or "IR eye") if needed.
Additionally, replacement IR-only remotes (which do not support the voice control feature) are commercially available and compatible with the device.

The Strong LEAP-S1, being an Android TV box, uses standard IR (Infrared) protocols (like NEC, RC-5, etc.) but doesn't have a universal "code" like a TV; instead, its original remote uses specific codes for the Android TV functions, and when programming a universal remote, you look for "Streamer Box" or "Set-Top Box" codes for the Android/Google TV brand, often found in codesets for similar devices from brands like Mecool, Nvidia Shield, or general Android TV boxes, with codes around the 20000-50000 range (e.g., 30000s for Symphonic, 20000s for Amstrad, 40000s for Beelink).

How to Find Codes for Your Universal Remote:
  1. Check Your Remote Manual: Look for "Streamer" or "Set-Top Box" sections, or codes for "Android TV" or "Google TV".
  2. Use Online Code Finder: Go to websites like OneForAll.com.
  3. Search for Brands: Try codes for brands similar to Strong or those using Amlogic chips (common in these boxes), such as:
    1. Beelink (e.g., 46526)
    2. Mecool (often in similar ranges)
    3. Symphonic (22326, 23336)
    4. Amstrad (22521, 14642, etc.)
  4. Code Search/Learning: If no specific code works, use your remote's "Code Search" feature or "IR Learning" function to teach it commands from the original LEAP-S1 remote.
Example (Using One For All codes): Codes in the 20000-40000 range are good starting points for these types of streaming boxes

Thanks a million, Rob
that clarifies things a lot. Looks like I have my work cut out for me

First thing I would suggest is either trying some streamer codes from your remote manual, or trying the manual search method described in the manual. If you find a code that does anything, I can use that to find the protocol and device code, which I can then use to find matching upgrades.

I don't have any experience with this box, but according to the manual and a picture I saw, it has a IR port which allows one to plug in an electrical signal from an IR receiver box. I guess that the Leap-S1 doesn't have a IR receiver capability built in.

Wow, that's great. Now all I need is a compatible IR sensor. I have written to Strong Support EU for the spec

I was under the impression that it came with one, but I guess not. Have you checked the unit to see if it has a slot for one?

Lo an behold, the Strong Leap-S1 has an inbuilt IR receiver. It works with the URC remote out of the box (once the URC is programmed of course).
