MENU function for Sony Bravia 9 TV

I'm looking for the code for the MENU function that is on the newer, stripped-down Sony TV remotes. My TV is a 2024 model. I believe the remote that came with the TV is the Sony RMF-TX920U. There is a button labeled MENU that I can not determine a code for. The button brings up a shortcut menu for changing a small subset of settings, like turning on and off CC, entering numbers (since the remote has no keypad), and different picture settings. This remote has another button the looks like a wrench and one that looks like a gear that also bring up settings, but the MENU button seems more specific to changing settings for the current content being viewed and simplifies it a bit. I've figured out the other functions on the remote but I'm stumped on the MENU button.

I am using and Atlas 1056 remotes, but also have a URC 8810 remote that has learning capability. But for some reason I can't learn the MENU button, though I was successful learning the gear icon button. I know the factory remotes do both bluetooth and IR, but I have a cheap clone remote that is IR only and works, so I think the TV can accept both IR and bluetooth signals for the MENU function.

I've looked through a lot of old Sony TV upgrade files and can't seem to find it. Any ideas are welcome.

have you tried this one? I did this a couple years ago for a then new Sony TV

dload.php?action=file&file_id=26427

maybe "quick settings"?

If that's not it I'm no help sorry.

Yes, I've looked through that one. "Quick Settings" is actually the function code that matches the "tools" button on the original B9 remote. It's the one that looks like a wrench on the remote. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm assuming since you mentioned that you'd learned other codes that you knew to unpair the remote to force it to use IR.

The only other thought that I have is have you looked here?

https://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/

I can't remember if I put all the codes from there in the upgrade I made or only the ones that actually worked, and I am not in front of the correct PC to check my notes right now.

Yes, I've studied that quite a bit, but I still haven't found it. The button on my remote is labeled "MENU", but on 2022 TVs I think it was labeled "123". Sony says it brings up the "Control Menu" in some of the stuff I've read online. Sony says it will "Display a menu on the TV to use button functions that are not on the remote control on the screen." I've tested a bunch of the functions that seemed like they could be it based on the names but no luck so far.

As far is unpairing the remote, no I did not do that. However I used the cheapie clone remote to teach the commands. I was never able to pair the clone to my TV since I left the original remote paired. I have a 1056B01 programmed with all the buttons from the original remote working except that dang "MENU/123" button. However, you have given me one more idea. Even though that button works properly on the clone I will try unpairing the factory remote and see if I can use the factory remote to teach the command. And I'll test to make sure that button works in IR only mode.

Thanks.

Success! I don't know if the trick was to use the original remote or just more practice learning codes, but on the 4th or 5th try using the original remote to teach my URC8011 I was successful. I don't think I've needed to learn a code in about 20 years, lol.

Just in case anyone finds this useful in the future, here are the two mystery buttons on the current "minimalist" remotes Sony is now using (at least for some TVs):
Gear icon (Sony calls this the dashboard button): Protocol Sony15, device 196, OBC 112
MENU button: Protocol Sony15, device 26, OBC 117

Now I have a 1056B01 that can execute all the commands from the original remote. The response is a little better with the original remote in bluetooth mode but all original remote functions work using IR.

I just checked https://hifi-remote.com/sony/ and it doesn't have any listings for Sony15 devs 26 or 196, so I may have to research those and add them, as Rob Humphrey's doesn't update the Sony site anymore.

I uploaded a spreadsheet of all known sony codes on this site and on Remotecentral many years ago. I have over the past few years have added new codes to this file. Device 196 was unknown to me until I read this post.
The link is to the file on Remotecentral, when the file section is working again I will upload the latest version. If you would like a copy of the latest, just PM me

I just did a quick scan of the jp1-master spreadsheet and I don't see any upgrades that use the regular Sony protocol with either 26 or 196, but of course, most of these will probably be in Sony Combo upgrades, where the device codes are at the button level, so you'd need to download each of them and tabulate the results, which would be a lot of work.
