Available in university towns and from Amazon.
They are just "purtied up" versions of a 4-device OFA remote.
Has anyone opened one up?
Which OFA remote are they based on?

This looks like a dressed up URC-4021, and if that's the case it has no JP1 possibilities. These are S3C8 remotes without an EEPROM chip. _________________ Rob

how do they get by with a ROM-based remote with no E2? Where are the settings (especially the device setup codes?) _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |

There's a capacitor in the remote that will (some of the time) keep the RAM alive while changing batteries. You have to be careful not to press any buttons while the batteries are out. _________________ Mike England |

Remotes with EEPROMs copy the data from the EEPROM to the RAM before they use it. When you program setup codes, etc you are programming them in the RAM and this will then get copied to the EEPROM for safe keeping.
Remotes without EEPROMs, and remotes where the EEPROM is broken or missing, still use the RAM but they don't copy the data to the EEPROM.
Just FYI, even though remotes like the URC-6131, URC-6011, URC-8011, etc are programmed to use an EEPROM, they ship without one. _________________ Rob
