Which current remote for returning user?

I currently have a RS 15-1994 and two Cinema 7+'s in my house, and a few more locations that I may want to add universal remotes to. With the upcoming DTV transition, I'll have converter boxes (with analog passthru) at most of my TVs and will still have analog NTSC for TIVO and DVD that are on a modulator; and I'd want to make things easy for other members of the family. I'd like to put identical remotes in most places, to avoid confusion; right now even I confuse where I've mapped certain tivo buttons between the RS remote and the cinema 7s. I'm quite sure I'll need an extender, at the very least to put macros on the device buttons.

And one location is a front projection screen, so I need a backlight. And I prefer hardbutton remotes to the Kameleons (however they spell it).

If I could get enough 15-1994s, I'd be happy of course. (I'm OK with getting a new JP1.x cable if I get newer remotes).

Is there a currently shipping, backlit buttons, extender available remote? Not to expensive? Where three or more could be obtained at one time from a single source? (I'd rather not try to pursue ebay and try to get multiple identical units in different transactions.)

Have I read things right, there's no back-lit atlas with an extender yet? And one has to obtain them one at a time through ebay?

Should I just camp on ebay for more 15-1994s, or maybe 8910s or similar?

Thanks for any answers; I'm sure you all get tired of answering so many that are similar to this.

There IS an extender for those, and you can get as many as you like from that seller (california something) at one time.

If you like them and don't want to buy a new cable, then yes. Otherwise get a cable from Tommy Tyler.

The backlit Atlas OCAP is pretty nice. Has all of the PVR functions, but is somewhat limited in its devices (although the extender has a dev multiplexer)

you can generally find them on ebay for $10 or maybe $15. You'll need a JP1.x cable, your older JP1 cable won't work.

Apart from the lack of backlight, I would recommend the URC-6131 as it's probably the best remote for Tivo. I need to check how many I have, but I do still have some URC-6131s available.

I also have some Atlas remotes that I bought last year and haven't even taken them out of the box yet to see which models they are, but they are most likely all Flash remotes, so they won't work with your old EEPROM cable.

Hey, guys, THANKS for all the info. The Atlas does look like a really good deal.

Has anyone experimented with making their own label for the F1/OnDemand/F2 area? I suspect they're the standard silk-screened stick-on things. In other projects I've used the method of printing reversed on a overhead transparency, then flipping it over so it's no longer reversed but the plastic protects the writing. Never done it that small, though.

Excellent idea. I would really like to get a sticker to put track forward/track back over those. I will experiment over the weekend.
