URC-6440 and OARUSB04G -- Preserve your USB sockets!

I've not always had great durability with things that use the old Micro-USB sockets, after a while they wear out and eventually break. Recently, I was having trouble connecting my URC-6440, the connection failing half way through downloads. I cleaned the USB socket with a compressed air spray, and it was working again. At least for the time being.

So I sent off to Aliexpress for a magnetic coupling lead, where you leave a small USB dongle plugged in, and the lead joins it magnetically. Here's the link:

They are Fonken branded (in case that link no longer works), and the dongle part is on the small side, which is great, because, on the inside of the battery cover, you can cut off the piece of protruding rubber closest to the USB socket, and this leaves room for the dongle! The battery cover still comes on and off without any problems. A larger dongle might not have allowed for that. Just make sure you get the Micro-USB model, and that allows data too, not just for charging.

I've tested the connection just now, and both uploads and downloads work without any errors.

Interesting idea. As for cleaning the port with compressed air, I would suggest using some electronic contact cleaner instead (like DeoxIT).

At the time, the compressed air had arrived, I now have contact cleaner and isopropyl alcohol at the ready, but haven't needed them yet.
