Can the Inteset 422-3 really do 8 devices?

I see on RMIR for my "new" Inteset 422-3 that the window has A B C D Dev1 Dev3 Dev 7 and Dev8.

Does that mean this can really do 8 devices or what does that actually mean?

A 4 Device remote is starting to become cramped for me so an 8 device remote would be awesome

If a remote is internally an 8-device remote, even though there are only 4 actual device buttons on it, it will usually have 8 device buttons that you can access in RMIR. I don't just mean the 8 boxes where you can enter setup codes, I mean if you go to the Macros tab and start to program a macro, you will find 8 device buttons available as buttons that you can put in a macro. So, with that in mind, if you have some "spare" buttons on the remote that could serve as extra device buttons, all you need to do is program a macro with 1 button in it, that being the extra device button.

If you don't have any spare buttons, how about using the regular device buttons, only shifted. Like shift-TV = DVD or something like that.

No Spare buttons so how do I shift a device button?

"Shift" means that you press the SETUP button first, then press the actual button.

For example:

In your case, your remote has A B C and D as the device buttons, so you could program the following macros:

Shift-A = Dev1
Shift-B = Dev3
Shift-C = Dev 7
Shift-D = Dev8
