The URC-3660/3680 is often relabeled under different brands, like Best Buy sells it under the Insignia brand and Walmart uses the Onn brand, but it's really the same remote and it's one of the few JP1 remotes currently on the market. It's usually about $30 in most places, but Best Best will occasionally have it on sale for $20.

Does that mean that JP1 remotes are getting scarce? I noticed them missing from the shelves but I thought it was something to do with the local economy.

My impression is that universal remotes in general are fading in popularity and I think this is a long term trend.

I blame smart TVs and streaming. The days of folks having a DVD player, VCR, cable box, stereo and TV all hooked up together are moving into the past (even though that still describes my setup). But even for me, most of the time I just fire up the TV and stream something. I still have the sound running through my stereo but a lot of folks now have a sound bar that can be controlled from the TV.

And I bet there are a whole bunch of kids that will never own a TV as they do everything from their laptops.

Another issue is that more devices are moving to RF-based control. Some devices, like 'stick' streamers, are RF-only.

Meanwhile we have a bunch and I say A BUNCH of devices using the same card-style IR remote, with the same code.

I have a Hitachi soundbar, OSRAM lighting, DVD player and a random chinese stereo using the same IR codes, so when I turn on the lights, the soundbar goes to AUX input :? when I turn the volume up, the lights go blue.

The last OfA remote I saw in a store, was on closeout for about $4, I might get it just in case they never come back. It's a Contour 4. Enough for my needs.

Yeah, there are lots of cheap devices that come with credit card sized remotes and they almost always use the NEC1 protocol with a device code of 0. I assume that one is free to use to OEMs.

I just bought a URC3680 and I noticed This from the manual! Don't touch for us yeah right LoL!

I do wonder if the manufacturers have a special keyed JP1 cable as I have been noticing that notch by pins 5 & 6 every JP1 remote I have.

Can't get a love like or hate at the moment as I'm in rehab for joint replacement surgery gone wrong :(

I have seen some Onn 3660s on eBay where the JP1 connector was not even populated.
