Clean your vacuum hose to prevent bad smells - A trick you need to know

A vacuum cleaner is supposed to make your house clean. Some people are even looking for models that can eliminate odor. But not many people know an unclean hose can become the reason that the vacuum can’t fulfill its mission. That’s why it’s important to know how to clean a vacuum hose with bad smells and that’s what I’m about to show you right now!

Why should we clean the vacuum hose?

The hose is the highway to vacuum cleaner of debris, that’s why it can suffer from these symptoms:

• Bad smells from the build-up of bacteria.
• Weak suction due to blockages.
• Wear and tear caused by left-over debris.

If we don’t clean the hose, then bad smells won’t be the only problem that happens to your vacuum cleaner.



How often should we clean the vacuum hose?

• Clean the hose every 1-2 months if you use the vacuum cleaner regularly.
• Clean the hose when you see the suction power drop.

How do we clean the vacuum hose?

Cleaning the vacuum hose is not hard. Because there are only 3 steps in the process.

• Step 1: remove the hose

First, turn off your vacuum cleaner and unplug it for safety. Then detach the hose from the body of your vacuum cleaner as directed from the user manual. If you do this cleaning process after vacuuming, you should let the machine cool down first.

• Step 2: clear the blockages

You can use the flashlight on your smartphone to find blockages inside the hose. To loosen the blockage, tap or squeeze gently on that position of the hose. Don’t use too much force because we don’t want to break the hose. Then, use a broom handle or a stick to push through the hose. Make sure whatever you use to put inside the hose is not sharp. Shake off all the debris that has loosened up over the trash can.

But if you’re lucky enough, you can even skip this step. Debris takes time to build up, so keeping a regular maintenance schedule can make you lucky a lot more.

• Step 3: wash the hose

This step will not only clean all the leftover debris but also eliminate bad smells for your hose. Rinse the hose with cold water, inside and out. Then add 1 part of baking soda to 4 parts of vinegar with the water to kill the bacteria that are causing the smell. Make sure the mixture travels everywhere inside the hose. Rinse the hose until you see the water coming out of it is clear. Finally, shake off the excess water and hang the hose up to let it air-dry. This could take 24 hours or more so make sure the hose is completely dry before you re-attach it to the vacuum cleaner.

The current version is 2.14 build 15, so your version is MANY versions out of date and while I don't think the version has anything to do with what you're seeing, it's good practice to always upgrade to the latest version before reporting a problem.

Anyway, back to your question, I assume when you say "remote code" you mean "setup code", correct? And where are you getting the "setup code" that you have that is greater than 8999? Many remote manuals list the setup codes with a leading digit that is really the device type, but when they get saved in the remote memory, it's stored as a 4-digit code. For example, you might have a TV code listed as 10027 which is really TV/0027 and that's how it will show up in RMIR.

Setup codes greater than 8999 are invalid because of the remote, not RMIR. There are no built in codes greater than 5000 in fact. As Rob said above, the codes in RMIR drop the first digit, so you should never encounter codes anywhere near 9000.
