Missing javaw.exe?

Post by RoyGBiv »

I have been a longtime user of JP1 and about a year ago started using RMIR exclusively with no problems. Today I went to make a minor modification of my RCRP05B programming, and when I try to open any .rmdu or .rmir file, I was asked which program to use. If I try to use the previously associated file, nothing happens. If I try directly to open Remotemaster, I get an error message that:

The item 'javaw.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?

So, at this point I can't get anything to open. I went back to using IR to make the simple change I wanted to, but how do I fix this? I presume it relates to a Windows or Java upgrade since I last tried to program a remote, but I don't know what would be done to correct this.

Thanks.

You've probably installed a new version of Java, so try re-running the setup.vbs file and then try using the new shortcuts that it creates, or just try double clicking on an RMIR or RMDU file as you were doing.

Trying to rerun setup.vbs gives me the error message:

Program shortcuts were not created because javaw.exe was not found

Somehow, the computer I use to program my remotes seems not to have Java installed on it at all. I have no idea how it could have disappeared, but I just re installed it, and I've gotten things working again.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
