I am attempting to sort out a device upgrade for a Philips CD Changer/CDR (a CDR 785). The device uses dev20 and dev26. Certain keys are always dev20 (Change to CD1, 2, 3); Certain keys are always dev26 (Change to CDR, Power, Brightness, etc). These work fine, obviously.

The problem is that all of the numeric keys, all of the transport keys, repeat, shuffle and program seem to need to alternate between dev20 and dev26. If I configure them as dev20, they work correctly whilst CD1/2/3 is selected (but don't work at all when CDR is selected). If I configure them as dev26, the opposite is true (CDR works, CD1/2/3 does not).

Before I try to hack a protocol executor up to alternate the device ID between each Tx, is there a less painful way to do this?

You should be able to do it using the RC5-combo protocol or one of
the other RC5-Combo protocols
I would give that a try

None of the RC5 protocols, combi or not, seem to have an option to alternate between two device IDs on every transmit...
Exactly which protocol executor are you suggesting?

Not sure what you mean but anyway
Under setup pick rc5-combo set one device as 20 and one as 26
under the functions tab under device you pick device 20 or 26

I know how a combi executor works; I'm already using one for the "normal" buttons of this remote.

The problem is that I need one function to transmit alternating device IDs on every single frame. I've reproduced what I want with IRscrutiniser and generated learns which work - but the learns are huge and I would rather have it be a normal device upgrade.

I suspect I'm going to have to modify one of the RC-5 protocol executors to get the needed behavior.

The simple way to do it is to have one upgrade/device button for CD1/2/3 and another upgrade/device button for CDR.

To do what you're suggesting would require making a hacked version of the RC5 executor.

Right; I've hacked up the RC-5 executor so it works. It's not the nicest custom protocol ever, but I couldn't see this being usable for anything else even if I did a better job of it.
