|
|
Hello!
I was thinking of maybe getting another television. The one I am looking at is a Samsung. The only thing about that worries me, is that it has a weird remote control with only a few buttons on, called a Samsung Smart Remote.
Do you guys know if such TVs can be controlled by normal universal remote, using IR-commands, like "play", "rewind", up/down/right/left/ok, the numeric buttons, etc., or does it only have those few functions on the remote, like "source", "channel up down, "volume up down," etc.?
I have to buy the TV online, so I can't physically test it for myself.
It would be nice to know if I could use my universal remote control for it, should the original break.
The remote is like the one in this link: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00049119/
Thank you.

Generally speaking I would say the answer is "yes", if you have a JP1 remote, you should be able to get all the missing buttons, but no guarantees. _________________ Rob

It looks like a bluetooth remote to me, implying the answer "no". (Not 100% sure though.) |

It's possible things have changed, but my aunt has a new samsung with the same remote. The JP1 IR remote I programmed for her controls the TV just fine using the same samsung codes that have been around forever.
If you use the Harmony lookup tool and find your model works with their IR remotes, then it has IR.

According to subhuti's other thread, he has a URC-6430. _________________ Rob

Many thanks, you guys!
I tried mdavej's suggestion.
The model I have seen is called Samsung UE32M5505.
On the link I tried, it said:
"We were unable to find a match for Samsung UE32M5505; however we did find 3 similar devices:
SAMSUNG UE32M5503
SAMSUNG UE32M5500
SAMSUNG UE32M5500AK"
So I guess the answer is: "maybe"?
Yes, I have a URC-6430. Waiting for a Nevo C2 to get here from China.
On a completely different matter, sorry it is very off-topic:
Does anyone know how I can find out when TV models are made? I have a real trouble finding my way through all these model numbers and letters. I can't make sense of what they mean. If something is better or newer than somethiing else. For example those models above. I have no idea if they are all from the same generation, or if one is older, or whatever. I feel kinda lost.
Isn't there some master list somewhere, which tells which year a particular model is from, and which other models were made that year, their capabilities, etc? All on one, nifty chart? |

Are you talking about the year your TV was made? If so, is the year printed on the set anywhere?
Regarding testing if your TV responds to IR, either just pick one of those sets on your Harmony or pick a file from here and load it into your 6430 remote, and test it. _________________ Rob

I forgot that you haven't actually bought the TV yet. Are you looking at a used TV? Normally the listings for new TVs should say which year model it is. For example, Amazon often has older models selling cheaper than the current models. For example, here's a US 2017 model: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07818XM2T/
So, based on the link that you found, if the model that you're looking at is UE32M5505, that should mean:
U = LED
E = Produced for Europe
32 = Screen size (in inches)
M = Manufactured in 2017 HD
5505 = Series.
Here's the user manual:
