Completely fresh install - gone wrong

I am far from a beginner, but this is such a basic problem...

I needed to wipe my whole system and start with new install of Windows 10 from an original install disk.
  1. I created an install disk of the latest version of Windows 10, in my case today this included the Creators update (November 2017).
  2. I installed the latest JRE (9.0.1).
  3. I downloaded the latest full install of RemoteMaster.v2.05build9 and unzipped it on my data drive.
  4. I ran Setup.vbs which showed the correct directory and claimed success.
If I try to run RemoteMaster.jar directly or by clicking the shortcut or by clicking on an existing .rmir file absolutely nothing happens - no error display - nothing. As a test, I can open a cmd shell window in the RemoteMaster install directory and type "java -version" and it echos back the expected install information.

So, my question is, what critical step did I forget?

Yep, I get the same behavior as you with JRE 9.01. So I uninstalled it and installed version 8 and all is well again (1.8.0_152).

Do you have any idea what the issue is with JRE 9.01?

I have no idea. But I could reinstall it and look for clues.

Although it was working on Dec. 2 as I posted, today it was not again. I check and the version of JRE that I installed on 12/2 was still there (8u151) 64-bit version. Just in case, I uninstalled that and installed the 32-bit version - no joy. Then I tried 8u152 64-bit version - no joy. I am really beginning to panic that I can't find a way to run RMIR. Any ideas or suggestions will be welcome.

EDIT Ignore this post. I cured it by doing something that makes no sense. I deleted the RemoteMaster... directory and extracted the zip file again. Problem cured. Don't know why it worked - just happy it did.

Looks like Creators Update broke a lot of Java apps. I say we just stick with version 8 until Java or Microsoft fixes it on their end.
