Speco Technologies "Generic Remote"

So I've been busting away for a couple of hours trying to figure out how to build a remote from scratch for a JP1 device, based off the original remote. I don't have any JP1 remotes to learn the original remote nor do I have the cable to extract it. I'm just trying to assemble what I need so that I can plug the info into my slingbox solo.

I tore down the original remote and found the following key components.

From what I see, that chip makes kinda like an NEC2 code.

I assumed NEC1 for the upgrade that I created. When echos reports back as to whether it works or not, if he says that the buttons don't repeat properly, I'll try changing it to NEC2.

That is because NEC 1 and 2 repeat differently.
NEC1 repeats by repeating the whole 32 bits, NEC2 by sending just one bit. That datasheet shows the repeat bit being sent.

You've got that backwards. NEC2 repeats the whole string, NEC1 just repeats the leadin and leadout with no data bits.
