URC-6440 - JP1 or not?

I just bought a URC-6440. I checked first that there was an RDF and a map for it, which there are, and the image with the map matches the appearance of the device.

HOWEVER it does not have the 6-pin connector - instead it has a micro-USB connector and a USB A to micro B cable is supplied with it.

Can RMIR communicate over a straight USB connection? I thought it had to be a USB to serial cable?

It surely is a jp1 remote.
RMIR can communicate through micr-usb.

More specifically the URC6440 (and a few others) do not use the typical JP1 (JP1, JP1.2, JP1.3, etc) 6-pin header connector that requires some form of special cable (JP1 parallel, JP1 USB, JP1.3 serial, etc)

However the tools like RMIR will support the USB connected UEI remotes like the 6440 and others.

so in the broad sense of the word they are "supported JP1 remotes" but in the technical sense they are remotes that are supported but do not use a JP1 style connection.

Interesting - I bought this as a replacement for my two broken 7555's but having taken delivery it seems to be much more than I was expecting, with an extender available (complete with 26 page manual!).

Removing the need for a special cable should take away one of the major barriers of entry to the world of JP1, which must be a good thing.
