JP1 Remotes

I have a UEI Atlas JP1.3 model # 1105BC2 learning remote from Time-Warner on which I have copied some learned codes. I also have another almost identical remote to this however it doesn't have the learning function (model # 1055BC2). Can I transfer the codes without any modifications from the learning remote to the non-learning remote? Or, can these codes only be transferred unchanged from one learning remote to another?

If it can be done, would the following steps work:

1) Install and open Remote Master (RM/RMIR) v2.03.
2) Connect the Learning remote to my PC. Click on the ‘Download From Remote' button. Save the file with the Learning remote's codes. Disconnect.
3) Connect the Non-learning remote. Open the Learning remote's code file. Upload these codes without any changes/modifications to the Non-learning remote. Disconnect.

Would the Non-learning remote now function the same as the Learning remote?

Also, there is a JP1.2/1.3 USB cable being sold on eBay by "cable-store". Would this work for my doing the above? --thanks--[/b]

That will not work. You must convert the learned signals to a device upgrade, and then install that device upgrade into the non-learning remote. Device upgrades are generally preferred over learned signals, for a number of reasons.

It is possible we already have a device upgrade that will work in our file section.

Some remotes think they are learning remotes, they just don't have the hardware. This is especially true among the Atlas remotes.

If you are seeing a learned tab on your non-learning remote, then yes you can copy a learn from one remote to another. But as Greg suggested it is best to convert it to an upgrade and share it with the community here.

There are lots of advantages to using an upgrade:

• - An upgrade will handle toggle bits in toggling protocols.
  - An upgrade will allow you to use the learning memory for an extender.
  - An upgrade will allow you to use different OBCs that are not on the original remote.
  - An upgrade, create an upgrade and post it in the file section to become a contributing member to this community.
  - Creating an upgrade will help you learn more about the powers of JP1.

So give it a whirl. RM is pretty user friendly. If you run into problems with a tricky protocol ask questions. There are experts here always willing to help.

An upgrade also takes up way less memory than a learned signal. An analogy would be a music score encoded for a music program such as MuseScore, Sibelius etc. versus a WAV file or other performance audio format.
