Hi, thanks in advance for any help.
My question isn't as hard as it looks, so please forgive the long post.
Hardware:
Time-Warner remote: Battery compartment sticker says URC-1047BA3. Picture looks very similar to the Atlas 4 jpeg image that comes in RM Maps and Images. It's a 4-device remote, but the buttons are slightly rearranged compared to the jpeg image, and it says Time Warner instead of Adelphia. Has connector labeled JP1.2.
KSI Keyboard: http://www.ksi-store.com/ksi2109-wireless-infrared-keyb.html
Goal: to program the Time-Warner remote (which belongs to me, BTW) to transmit the proper codes to mimic the KSI keyboard. This is how I've been operating for a few years using the Sony RM-VL900 learning remote. (It learns the keyboard codes and I use it to control my MythTV box as well as all the other equipment.) The Sony remote is starting to show its age, some buttons don't work, print has worn off, and it would be nice to have a few more buttons than it has.
These would be the three things needed:
1) To get the JP1 IR software to correctly communicate with and program the URC-1047 remote (Atlas 4-device).
2) To find out the codes for the KSI keyboard.
3) To manually program the remote to transmit the KSI codes.
As for #1, these threads don't give me hope, but they're somewhat old:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8306
For #2, I'm not sure but I might be able to download the KSI keyboard codes from the Sony remote. I have had it open before and I remember there being a 6-hole pattern in it resembling a JP1 type interface. But I don't see any RDFs or anything like that for it.
As for #3, having no real experience with JP1 programming, I have to wonder, is it possible to jut put in your own codes into this Atlas-4 style remote, assuming you know what codes to put in?
Thanks for any help. I know it sounds complicated but I was hoping for some info before starting on this as it kind of looks like a long shot. I love to hack at hardware and software, but only when there's reasonable hope of achieving a goal. |

Maybe a simplification of the questions is in order:
1) Would I be able to fully program the remote (it says URC-1047BA3 in the battery compartment) just using the Atlas 4 RDF file and the IR software?
2) Would I be able to enter entirely new codes specific to my KSI keyboard into the URC-1047 remote? (This keyboard's codes were previously learned quite easily by my Sony RM-VL900 remote.)
Note: There is a JP1.2 connection in the battery compartment of the remote. I have what I believe to be a working JP1.2 interface cable in my failed attempts to program my RS 15-100.
Thank you for any help! |

Zoiks,
Here's my 2 cents for a simple solution. The 15-133 and 135 are still $10 at radio shack (134 is $15), learning, and JP1.x ready (no hardware mods required besides removing the outer clip from the JP1.2 connector on your cable so it will fit). I think it would be worthwhile picking up one of those for testing and building your upgrade. That would confirm your cable works and takes the 15-100 mods as well as any new RDF's for your 1047 remote out of the equation. Then you can tackle the 1047 later, since that will likely be more involved. I suspect the Atlas RDF won't work without possibly significant modifications, which only another expert is capable of doing.
As for the KSI codes, if IR can decode them, an upgrade will be very simple to build. If IR can't then someone may have to write a new protocol for you. Usually not a big deal. If it turns out the codes belong to an upgrade built into the 1047 already, then yes, you can keymove them all as advanced codes without using a cable (a long shot, but possible). Otherwise, you'll have to load them using a cable.
You may even decide you like the 133/134/135 and abandon the 1047. |

Let me summarise zoiks questions as I suspect most people will not bother to read the original post as it's too long.
1) Is the Time Warner URC-1047BA3 remote JP1 compatible? It's labeled JP1.2
2) Does an upgrade exist for KSI Keyboard (as found here)?
3) Can learned signals be downloaded from a Sony RM-VL900 remote?
Here are my answers:
1) Yes, the remote is JP1 compatible using a JP1.2/3 USB or serial cable. I don't know for certain that an RDF has been developed for this remote, and we won't know which remote it really is until we see a download, but even if an RDF hasn't been developed already, it's not that hard to create one.
2) We do not have an upgrade for this keyboard. The fact that you were able to learn the signals using your VL900 means that the signals are reproducable, so in theory we should be able to create an upgrade, but we would need a way of getting the signals in order to do so.
3) No. This remote is made by Sony, not UEI, so you cannot use JP1 tools to download it's learning memory. Therefore, in order to capture the signals from the KSI keyboard you would either need to purchase a JP1 learning remote (like the 15-134 that Dave mentioned) and a compatible JP1 cable, or you'd need to find a willing JP1-er who will let you send them the remote so they can capture the signals for you. Alternatively, if you can find someone with a Pronto who also has this keyboard, ask them for a CCF file as we can get the signals from that. _________________ Rob
