I love the 8910/9910 remotes. I enjoyed assigning macro keys and the upgrades from this great site. As they are now pretty much gone, what is the next best thing?
Thanks

The next OFA remote I got was a simpler 8820.
If you need the display, I couldn't say)
It was on sale, so I couldn't refuse. I got my 8910 last year or more (to replace an 8017, which partially works)
, and it is still working well. Even my first JP1 remote; my Cinema 6, still works, mostly. |

No display and no backlight but I have three 8820's to replace my 8910's and I prefer the layout especially for PVR use. You'll need a JP1.2 cable instead of the old JP1 but the software's the same. The 8820 is also much lighter. |

Can the power button be programmed as a Macro?
Thanks a bunch

If by "function" buttons you mean the device buttons, then no, in most remotes they cannot be programmed with macros. The exception being if the remote has an extender available and you are using it, in which case they can.
However, in all remotes, the shifted device buttons can be used for macros (when programmed using JP1). _________________ Rob

you can program macros on the device buttons, they are activated with a long key press.
