Guys, I have not posted here for a very long time. I have a URC-9910 that works great, but I'm having trouble updating it. I have IR version 8.04. I see that I have an IR file from September of last year that I was able to upload and use successfully. I haven't used IR since.

I have a cable that I believe I bought from Tommy Tyler a long time ago. I apologize, but I don't even know what cable I have. It connects via USB, and it has a 2x3 connector for my URC-8910/9910 (I have both). It says JP1 on the USB end, and I remember the plug has a green LED that lights up while transferring data.

I think I just need to install the correct driver. The interface check says ok, but Driver Status says it can't find the Delcom driver. I'm wondering if a Windows update broke something because this is the same laptop I've been using for a while.

I appreciate any help. I have spent a lot of tonight reading threads and instructions, but I'm getting nowhere. I used to be good at this stuff!

Thanks.

Probably. If I were you, I'd just get a new cable that's compatible with all JP1 remotes and all operating systems going forward:

plus

Also would be a good idea to start using Remote Master instead of IR.

That cable has 6 individual connectors, rather than a single 6-port connector, so you will need the following info in order to know how to connect it (or modify the connector by gluing the ends together)

And thank you, Rob! I will definitely need that.

Well, I got my adapter and cable in the mail, but I'm still having problems.

Check interface succeeds.

If I try to upload to remote, the USB end of the remote blinks green and I get a "JP12 read failed -1" popup.

If I go to Driver Status, it says "Unable to find Delcom device driver", the same error I had with the old cable.

Your new cable doesn't use the Delcom driver. Pins may be connected wrong.

Ok. I used the pinout described here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/simple/index.shtml

Along with the color codes you posted here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16360

Are the pinouts above correct for URC-8910? I'd assume so.

Did you try rotating it 180 degrees?

I just did. Same error. The interface check also passes when rotated 180 degrees, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence in that test Smile

I see the cut corner on the PCB in the remote for pin 1, so I'm pretty sure I lined up everything according to what I've seen posted here.

Thanks for your help.

Interface type Auto? RM installed to an unprotected folder (not Program Files)?

Ok, sorry. I'm still using IR.exe. Is everything now done through RM? I used to only use RM for building upgrades and IR for everything else.

I have RM 1.54 installed in My Documents, where I have always run it. Is there a newer version I should be using?

I think you'll find that Check Interface succeeds even if nothing is plugged into the USB port.
Two things to check:
1) In the menu item Interface. make sure you've selected JP1.x. The JP1 adapter makes the remote appear to be a JP1.3 remote. So IR.exe needs to look for a JP1.x and not a JP1 interface.
2) In help About, check that JP2Serial.dll is loaded and that it is version 0.19 or newer. There is a slight chance that your interface is built with a newer version of the FTDI chipset, in which case you'll need version 0.21, available in the RMIR v2.03 distribution.

I think the symptoms you've described imply that 1) above hasn't been set properly. With JP1.x selected, my copy of IR 8.04 returns "the Delcom interface is working properly". The message from IR is factually incorrect, but that's the way it behaves.

ETA: Yes, nearly everybody uses RMIR, because it is actively maintained and supports multiple operating systems. Version 1.54 is so old it doesn't even work to download/upload from/to remotes. V2.03 is the latest released version. V2.04 is under development now.

I went to Help...About and see that I have version 0.19 of JP12SerialDriver.

I do have JP1.x selected in the Interface menu.

I will try RMIR 2.03 next, as that is what is currently supported.

Thanks again.

I tried RM 2.03. When I try to upload, it says "No remotes found!"

I tried both auto-detect and JP1.X.

I'm wondering if I just didn't hook up the pins correctly, but it seemed pretty straight forward. As I understand it, as I look at the pins on my URC-9910, it should be:

YGW
XBX

(Y)ellow, (G)reen, (W)hite, (B)lack -- X means no connection

pin numbers:

246
135
