I've been using my 10820s and 8820s for years now. They have been great, but a few of them are starting to show signs of wear. The button labels are faded and the contacts are worn. I found a couple 10820s a few months back and snagged them. I know they've been out of production for years now.

What JPx.x capable remotes are out there now that are not on clearance, out of production or tied to a set top box? The Remote Chart appears to be out of date. I don't need an eight or ten device remote. A six device remote would work.

Chart isn't terribly out of date except for a few oddballs.

Nevo C2 is by far your best option for 6 devices. Granted it is also out of production, but it is still very cheap and plentiful. UEI simply hasn't come out with much else with more than 4 devices.

OARUSB04G is also a good one, but needs the extender to get to 6 devices. Not a big deal though. I still see it on store shelves.

Both of the above include their own USB cable.

I also like the Inteset which is 8 device if you include phantoms. There is a variant of that one on the shelves at Best Buy right now (Insignia NS-RMT415) that RM will support shortly. Both need a JP1.3 cable, not JP1 like you used with your 10820. A new cable will cost you about $8 shipped.

URC-8820 is a JP1.2 remote, so he might have the right cable

I got my cable from Tommy years ago. It's a JP1.2 for sure.

If it's a Tommy cable, I think it will be an FTDI cable, which is what you need. The other cable type is Prolific, which won't work with the more recent remotes.

If it turns out that your cable is no good, you can get a new cable for under $9, details here...
