Shift Key...?

I just found out that the Setup key works as a Shift key. It works fine on my Charter URC, but I cannot get it to work on my URC-3660. Must I enable it somewhere in the JP1 software?

For any upgrades where you have found additional buttons that work, just create a new version and load it here.
For cases where you get a protocol clash with an existing upgrade, we would need to see your RMIR file and the upgrade that you're trying to load. Zip the files together, load them to the Diagnosis Area and then post a link here.
I assume you used the Device Combiner to combine the 2 upgrades. How did you try moving that to the second remote? RMIR customizes that executor for each remote.
Using SETUP as a SHIFT key does not need to be enabled.

Rob I run into similar problem with onn remote PID in use alt not available
I noticed that all the upgrades in this have PID 00 5A is set to custom not sure if that matters but it is perplexing also this has segment 14 and 18 if they might be setting something.

I have not discovered the combiner, yet. I just picked learned keys from two different devices and created an upgrade. I did not even have to capture all the keys. I just captured a sample and saw how they were handled and duplicated their format when adding the remaining keys (editing the RMDU file in Notepad).
The protocol error seems to only happen with the 3660, not the Charter URC. I will get those files together later today.
I regained the Shift key after another upload (to the remote).

Don't ever edit the RMDU in notepad.
You also got lucky combining devices. Both must have used the same protocol by chance. Otherwise, you can't mix protocols without the combiner.

I would need to know the background on how you created this RMIR file and how you added all of those upgrades. I just created a fresh RMIR file for a URC_3660 and added upgrades and they added just fine, no custom code. So then I opened your RMIR file using Notepad and deleted all of the rows that start with CustomCode.S3C80=, then saved it and opened it using RMIR and it all displayed just fine, no custom code. So, I don't know what started it all, did you download an upgrade which had custom code and that made all the rest of them go custom?

I am surprised that you feel confident enough to edit files using Notepad, but now that I know that's what you did, I feel confident that I know why things blew up.

That's the weird thing this remote is not my upgrades the upgrades were already in it
I only tested it once to make sure it worked and then it has been sitting in a box for months

Where does this remote come from then? Are you suggesting that those upgrades were installed at the factory, or did another JP1 user have it before you? If you intend to use this remote, and those upgrades are not yours, if it were me, I'd do a 981 style reset on it and start fresh.

I have a spare 3660 in the box we can analyze if needed. Is this just a new, unknown protocol or something more?

Yes it was new with upgrades and As far as i can remember I only tested that it worked and changed the back-light timing on it.
981 reset does not change the results but i can just upload a different RMIR from my 3660 collection and then the remote works fine
Perhaps when I uploaded the backlight timing change, the data somehow became corrupt (perhaps a computer glitch) since i can upload a known working RMIR and the remote then works fine

If you want to continue with the remote "as is", just strip out those lines that I told you to, or just delete all of those upgrades if you don't need them. When they added them in the factory, they must have included the NEC executor code, for some reason. I wonder if they fixed a bug in it or something?

My "Notepad" upgrades are working fine. I have not tampered with their auto-generated protocols.
The failures have shown up in
some Convert Learned Signals* to Upgrade and
at least three files from here,
Emerson LC320EM8A-81.rmdu ,
Digital Stream DTX9950 Liz.rmdu &
WDTV Live SMP.rmdu
The last three were easily accepted into the Charter URC. They just had conflicts with the 3660 configuration. According to the error message, they are in conflict with the previous downloaded upgrades,
Magnavox MDTR20 TV-VCR-DVD combo.rmdu &
Toshiba SD-V392SU2 DVD Player- VCR Combocc.rmdu
for having the same PID.
*not a feature on Charter URC.

The 981 reset worked on my Charter URC, but not on my 3660.

To reset the 3660:
To perform a MFR Reset:
Remove all power from the remote (press a button after to discharge the capacitor),
Reapply power, wait for 2 flashes,
Press 2 + 8 simultaneously within 6 seconds, 2 flashes,
Type 9 8 1, wait for 4 flashes.
