That 'corrected' design has an error. The backside picture of the JP1.2 design does not match the frontside.

Good catch. How about "Figure 5" backside does not match. You might want to PM Tommy to update.

Oops! Sorry about that, guys. Got Tim's PM and fixed it. I also deleted the Word version, because now that I can post PDF versions I doubt there will be much interest in the Word documents.

When I bought my USB JP1 cable from DIY, it never worked. Something with my motherboard and current windows settings. I parted it out for the 6 pin IDC. It proved to be useful for thie JP1.x cause.
After having issues with my HDD and WinXP, I decided to reinstall from scratch. I plugged in the DIY USB JP1 cable. It ran through the hardware install and finally installed the driver rather than failing at that point.

Any body know where I can get a 6-pin IDC connector?

I couldn't find a 6-pin anywhere I joined two 3-pins together instead.

Rebuilt the interface.

Still no good. Ran the test software and got this message. At present have built the JP1.2 only interface may convert it to JP1.x because shadsnz (same remote as me) built it and is working.

I have tried on my computer with a USB->Serial converter and on another computer which goes straight to the Serial port. No good on either. What is different though is that when I run the test software not through a USB converter my remote turns on and all the buttons, etc. light up, (i.e., looks like it does when you take out the batteries and put them back in) and the remote signal blinks twice but still get output as below.

BTW I did also try IR.EXE but as expected nothing there either!

C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\RemoteControlStuff\TestGroup>teste
r
tester version 0.00
jp12io.dll version 0.00
Parsing command list file tester.dat
Opened COM1
Unable to connect

C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\RemoteControlStuff\TestGroup>pause

Press any key to continue . . .

Go you good thing! It is working like a gem.

Had another look at my circuit and hadn't made two connections (wanker  ). Lesson 1 build the interface in one sitting and not three hoping you'll remember to make that connection tomorrow!

The tester software comes up as JP1.2 interface found!

It doesn't work with my USB->Serial Converter but does work on the desktop which has a standard 9 pin serial port.

Thanks to all for your help.

If I can be of any help or you need further info please let me know.

Summary:
My remote is a One For All 6 in 1, Kameleon URC-8206
I built the JP1.2 only interface as per Tommy's instructions :D
The Tester software finds the remote
IR.EXE connects (JP1.x interface) and downloads
It doesn't work (for me) when using a USB->Serial converter but does when connecting directly to a serial port.
It's all good!!!

OK, so what should I be looking for, or what am I doing wrong?

My desktop is a ASUS MB / P4 with a build in serial port (Win XP Pro SP1). I have another desktop laying around, I can try tonight see if it works.

what i did was:

plug the cable to the computer, run tester.bat, of course if failed.
then plug the other end of the cable to my 10820, run tester.bat, it says: JP1.2 interface found (something like this).

BTW, the tester.bat will not distinguish between the old jp1.x (no modification) and new jp1.x interface (cut trace between 7 and 8, install 2 resistors and one cap). I tried both old and new jp1.x, tester.bat can find both.

have you tried the other way to plug the cable to your remote?

Do you have batteries in your remote while you try this? I have batteries in my remote. I will try w/o battery later today.

Hmm, I tried on my spaer P3 (not sure what is the MB), Win XP SP1. here is what I got:

Plug the cable to computer, but not to the remote:

Code: Select all

C:\jp1.x.test>tester
tester version 0.00
jp12io.dll version 0.00
Parsing command list file tester.dat
Opened COM1
Got 00 instead of an ACK!
JP1.2 remote found!
C:\jp1.x.test>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

Then I pluged the remote:

Code: Select all

C:\jp1.x.test>tester
tester version 0.00
jp12io.dll version 0.00
Parsing command list file tester.dat
Opened COM1
Got 00 instead of an ACK!
JP1.2 remote found!
C:\jp1.x.test>pause
Press any key to continue . . .
So it is something to do with the machine or tester needs to be revised.

BTW, this is the modified cable.

When the remote is pluged, the LED on the remote did blinked twice.
