JP1 Remotes

Gotta go to work, darn if that doesn't get in the way, and maybe I went too fast to set up RM...created a folder, rmaster, unzipped the zip file to it, installed jre from the sun site....now it says rm files will open up the application, but the Kenwood file is a text file.....what did I do wrong....again, I'll check in the morning, sorry for the hurried questions, let me know if I'm on the right track. It is almost exactly the same as installing a device upgrade. In KM, copy the protocol code into the clipboard by pressing that funny button that looks like two pages next to the "S3C8+ Protocol Code" text. In IR, go to the Protocols tab, press the Add button, then paste the upgrade code into the text area. Press the OK button.

2. Do I have to assign this at 1206 and aux, can't I use the rcvr key?

You can use the RCVR key if you like, but since the device upgrade is installed as Amp (which IR shows as AUDIO) 1206, you must assign AUDIO 1206 to that button.

3. Should I just use RM, does the make 1 and 2 moot?

I prefer RM, but I am biased (see my sig.). KM and RM perform the same basic function, and using one or the other doesn't change the basic process. It's just that in this case they produce slightly different upgrades, which would save you 47 bytes of upgrade space. You will still have to assign setup code AUDIO/1206 to the RCVR button.

Something to note for beginners.....the whole spreadsheet in KM doesn't necessarily show on the screen, a lot of it is to the right and below the display on my notebook......your last post revealed that to me. So now I know how to upgrade the protocol....thanks!

Actually, I did, and I printed out 16 of the 20 pages last night.....redigesting it now.....I did find that having the visuals in front of you as hard copy help, sometimes the scrolling up and down gets annoying to position the display to coordinate with the info above or below, so much was glossed over on the first flyby.....so, between the actual doing, this forum, and the posted materials, it's slowly coming around....thanks.

Hey Greg, it was the protocol pasting, did it, everything works great! I want to thank all of you for your patience, I do think making mistakes allowed me to learn more than just breezing through this. Now I'm ready for a little more, everything on my HT is on the remote except for my Prismiq Media Player, looks like that'll be a little trickier than the standard components. That, and a few macros, and I'm all set! You guys were great!
