Some of the Windows OS's still need the DOS 8.3 file descriptions when executing from a command line. SUch is the case with ExtInstall.
The reason we did not spot this is because XP does not care. Nils and I were both testing in XP. It wasn't until I tried it in W2K that I discovered the problem.

I've used ExtInstall many times (on at least 3 different versions of Windows) with filenames that are not DOS 8.3.
I thought it was enough to enclose the filenames in quotes on the command line.

Apparently this happens when calling the ExtInstall from IR.

Hmmm... it is still curious that I saw different behavior than you, because I am also using Windows XP. However, I will not argue with success. Thanks for your efforts.
